HELP !!!
I can ping the NAS using command prompt, and that tells me that it's really close by ( <1 ms response).

I even tried to manually map the drive by right clicking My Computer and entering in (\\192.xxx.x.xxx\Volume_1) but it doesn't work. When I go to browse, I can't see the NAS, yet I can access its utility via browser at any time, without any hiccups.

hi what do u mean it doesn't work? does it prompt u for username and password?

have u tried going to My Computer -> Map Network Drive?
tried using the easy search utility to help u map? does it prompt for user name and password? else whats the error message?
able to see ur nas under workgroup computers?

why use transmission or mldonkey?

hi guys.
just got my dns-323 recently.

I need to clarify something with the pros.
with bittorrent support in FW1.05, why do some people still stick with transmission or MLdonkey. I don't mind the nix command line and all, i just don't understand why not stick with the embedded BT client. It seems to work fine for me.

What advantage does transmission have over the embedded bittorrent client?

I read that Hitachi's 1TB prices had dropped to S$158.

Is the HDD compatible with 323?

I am thinking of purchasing them tomorrow.

So how did the upgrade went?

I still cannot delete my completed bt files even after i update it.. Does that means I need to reformat the hdd to let the new fw take effect?

An Update:

Fw 1.06 does allows me to delete all my downloaded BT files finally.. Had to restart the DNS 323 a few times

hi is this ur first time buying hardware? u might wanna try googling for ur answers :)

It's not my first time. I used to mod my system when I was younger but had stopped ever since my passion had shifted focus..

I read in this forum that certain shops did not provide warranty card and thus the warranty is only 3 years while having a warranty card will extend it to 5 years... I am unsure abt the system now

In the past, there wasn't a need for warranty card and if a HDD breaks down, I just need to do a RMA and send it over to their company for replacement.

Not sure about now though.

hope this is not a repeated question if yes please pardon me.

what's the compatibility of the DLINK's builtin UPnP server with PS3? Can it play 3GP/MP4/XVID/DIVX videos?

am contemplating this 323 with the 4-bay 343. Can I plug in just one HDD to 323 and then plug in the second one later and have RAID-1 enabled w/o losing the data? if this is not possible (i.e. hdd will be reformatted), can I have two 500G installed, and then when I'm ready to increase to 1G, I just plug two 1G one by one w/o loss of data?

this is possible, when you have just 1 hdd it only uses JBOD mode, when u insert the second one later it will prompt u to format the new disk and to select a new mode, however this is based on my experience and memory from fw 1.06, but i recommend that you backup whatever data inside first before trying anything funny, lest u end up like me :(

if its running as separate disks juz copy the data from the old 500G to the new 1TB, do take note of the volume labels

same as above, you might wanna try backing up bef trying anything funny again

Hi my apologies, i bought a 500GB seagate from fuwell and they gave me the disk which comes with a acecom warranty card(requires me to mail out one portion), bought 1 120GB seagate 2.5" years ago and DAT computers gave me an achieva warranty card(does not need to send, juz keep)

bought 2 500GB seagate from best bargain for my DNS-323 during the show and they didnt gimme any warranty card, they said it'd be handled for?

was hoping someone senior could enlighten us on this as well

i do keep most of the boxes of the hardware i purchased along with their receipts and warranty cards in case anything happens.

even with the 5 year warranty from seagate i hope i nv need to utilise it as it seems harddisks are the most resilient hardware inside the computer(even with the spinning parts, do correct me if im mistaken). in fact im using a 20GB IDE hdd from seagate probably dated more than 8 years ago and its still working fine for my desktop(cos my laptop lcd cui-ed)

I had just purchased a DNS-323 and 2 Seagate 1TB SATA2 (32MB) hard disk at the following prices:

DNS-323 - S$229
Seagate 1TB - S$158

Total: S$545

I bought it all at Bizgram. I went around asking why is there a need for warranty cards and I'd concluded the following:

The warranty card is from the distributor of the hard disks' company. The warranty is valid only if the distributor is around. For example, if the distributor were to close down, the warranty would be void. However, for hard disks without warranty card, it is from the distributor themselves and we do RMA with the hard disk company itself, Seagate for example.

The above are my assumptions and I welcome all feedbacks as I could be wrong.

The salesperson at Bizgram was friendly and went to seagate online and showed that my warranty is until 28 November 2013 (which is about 5 years from Nov 08) with my hard disk's Part Number and Serial Number. I am fine with that and decided to buy from them.

My Experience for DNS-323 with Playstation 3

I updated the firmware to v1.06 and enabled Telnet with funplug (or something like that).

I was able to stream divx files and watch them over my TV. Streaming music was okay too, however, I have yet to figure how to create a playlist with those.

In summary, I am pretty please with my DNS-323 with PS 3. So far, so good.

feel free to comment on anything that I could be wrong. Above are just my experience and assumptions only.
