why would upgrading firmware erasing ur hard disk content?

unless u are changing raid type or formating new hdd

talking about that....

I upgraded to 1.06, and then add an additional HDD to the left bay after a reboot.

It prompted me that a new HDD is found, and need to format.

I pressed next, formatted and then reboot.

It then tell me it found new HDD and need to format again, so I pressed next, and it formated.

Next thing I know, the original HDD also kena reformatted.

Only found out that this is a common bug in 1.05 and 1.06 in the dsm600 forum.

Another problem I got was that then I BT, after a while, I cannot access the GUI anymore, it will just hang there and nothing will appear.

Can still telnet in, can still BT, but cannot access the GUI.

even if I telnet to port 80, it will hang there (normal web server will give some response, and even when it is working fine, there is a response).

revert back to 1.05, and problem gone.

however, 1.05 cannot store the manual port input for BT... which is quite irritating. have to change again after a reboot.

hi guys, just upgraded my fw to 1.6. Now whenever i log into my homepage n click on the bit torrent tab, i get "Warning: Bit Torrent program is not installed. You can find the bit torrent installation program in the easy search utility."

I've tried installing it many times from the easy search utility but i still get that error.

did you let it run after clicking the BitTorrwnt Button in the Easy Search Utility?

it will prompt for a reboot after that.

BT will then be running.

Make sure a directory "Nas_Prog" is created in Volume_1

fw upgrades shouldn't erase your HDD content, otherwise, don't you think you'll have users up and arms against firmware upgrades?
=:p

That's why I never upgrade firmware. Cos' I got no other place to backup my data stored in the dns323.

the firmware readme file also warned to backup first, so I do not know if it is save to upgrade with backup.
why dont you try using tranmission 1.4 and above, so that you do not need to install clutch separately.

as for port forwarding, you have to co
nfigure in your router if you have any. forward connections making to port 8080 to your local ip, e.g: 192.168.*.* (fill up the * with your actual ip). then subsequently, when you access via your ddns, it should work. i.e: http://mydns.connect.com:8080/clutch
thanks bro for the tips. will try this out on friday or over the weekends..:)

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of a hard time setting up the FTP server.

I've created a user and group with account name and password and given it read/write permissions.

I'm able to see the server by typing ftp://202.168.x.x (but http://202.168.x.x doesn't seem to work...) and it asks me for a login/password. If I type the correct one I am logged in, if not then it says access denied.

All that seems correct so far... but once I'm logged in, I can't seem to view any of the files. I can navigate the directories fine, but whenever I try to open or save a file it will ask me for my login and password again. This happens over and over non-stop. If I type the wrong username/password, I get kicked off. If I type the correct one, it keeps asking me again and again.

Any idea what this could be? I'm on a DIR-655 router and I've gone into the Virtual Servers section and forwarded port 21 according to the manual.

Any help would be appreciated :)

when u connect with ftp client, try to use passive mode

and isp blocks port 80 so if u wanna try accessing via http://202.168.x.x might not work

Ah ok... was hoping to connect via a browser though instead of FTP client.

Also, I just tried to access the FTP from another network. Now it will prompt for my username and password, but once I enter it it seems to time out and says:

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Help :(

Try using a ftp client to get a clearer insight on the problem you are encountering.

as mentioned by richneo, try to use passive mode. If you are using the default port 21, do port forward both port 20 and 21. Assuming your ISP doesn't block any of those ports, you should be able to access your FTP.

Dns-323 And Ps3

Hi

My DNS-323 is wired connected to my singtel 2WIRE broadband router. My PS3 is also wired connected to the same router. When both are switched on, I can actually see and browse my DNS-323 folders on my PS3. However when I click on the folders, e.g. pictures folder, it shows 'non titles'. Of course, I store all my pictures inside.

Can someone help me why I can't see the pictures? It is the same for my music folder and video folder.

THANKS in advance for anyone's help...

Rgds

OK, after I forwarded port 20 it seems to be working slightly better. I can access and download files, but I get a connection time out after every 6-7 seconds or so. I have the timeout for the DNS-323 set at 10 minutes though.

I'm using FileZilla FTP and in Passive mode. The error I get is:

Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

So basically, I can navigate maybe 3 or 4 folders before I get the time out error. Then I can navigate 3 or 4 more and get another time out error.

Any ideas?

I just read about the failing 1TB Seagates

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/374/1050374/seagate-barracudas-7200-11-failing

and is kicking myself for trying to save $10 and not getting Hitachi.

Anyway, I got a 1 TB Seagate in my DNS-323... now I want to get another 1TB Hitachi to do RAID 1.

Question for brothers,

1. Different brands of 1TB is ok?
2. Do I need to reformat my existing 1TB when I want to do RAID 1?
3. I read somewhere that I can actually specify the size of the RAID 1, does it mean I can buy a 1.5TB, do RAID 1 with 1TB and non RAID 1 on the extra 0.5TB..

Found my answers... thanks..

just wondering if the latest firmware, 1.6, support up to 2 x 1.5tb?
Yes it does, it is indicated on the website when u download.

some issues of formatting stopping at 94% though.. think you need to clear yr browser's cookies or something... do a search for this.

just got my 323 but notice that the fan is not spinning, is it normal ?
yes its normal

the fan starts spinning when the temperature reaches 47deg and spin at max speed at 49 degrees

reduces speed when the temp drops back to 47 degrees and stop spinning when it drops to 43 degree

anyone help me on this please..

im using 2x500gb raid0 configuration on my dns-323, fw is 1.06

the network access(i.e mapping to windows explorer) is spoiled, but the ftp does work
so i use filezilla ftp client to transfer my mp3 to the NAS.. it works but the every mp3 transferred skips at random intervals, some .rar files transferred was corrupted and unable to open too

i googled this problem and am guessing its either due to raid 0 configuration, or i have a spoiled NAS?

and can i still rma if i had lost the receipt?

Think I finally got the FTP to work properly. All I had to do was disable SPI under the router's firewall settings. Thanks to all for the help :)
