My prev owner tore away all the doorbell wirings during his reno. ( which was stupid )

I had to get electrician to pull wire from DB box all the way to the door front. ( had to drill thru walls ) Bought a transformer from tabao to power up the doorbell. Wires not visible, just a doorbell on white wall. I didn wire Nest Hello together with a physical chime but let the notifications be announced by my google assistants . I have 5 of them. As long as wifi signals are robust the doorbell works, so I had a Google wifi puck near the door.

I subscribe to Nest Aware for the doorbell ( + other nest cams in household ). Without Nest Aware, the unit is quite handicapped. It is easy for me or wife to communicate via mobile with e.g postman or whoever pressed the doorbell when out.

It was only recently Google started selling a 3rd party power adapter for the Nest doorbell.

I dun think it is too different from Ring/Amazon. Just that you have to "adopt" the family that comes with them to work well. At least for now, until they make peace again.

I can use voice commands to chomecast various Nest cams / doorbell streams to TVs but I find it rather useless at least for my own usage . However only google home hubs auto display video stream when someone presses the doorbell. ( the mini hub getting cheaper and cheaper by the week )

I was not successful to link Nest doorbell to the Philips Hue e.g on press or motion detect certain zones light up gate light. i ended having a Philips motion sensor to turn on the said Hue light. If they gelled better it would be great to auto turn on night lights on motion detection in household. Not sure if they have improved integration on that front recently.

Sounds awesome. Can share electrician contact and where to buy the transformer? BTW you are staying in HDB? Sounds like landed to me with the many cams lol

I used to have a ring as well. Initially the live view takes awhile to load but ever since then I bought this wifi repeater. https://s.lazada.sg/s.fWfj It loads up almost instantly.

Now using Google nest video db. :s12:

Both work very well. Just that Google nest more mafan for the wiring. For ring buy a spare battery is always better. Can last about 2-3 months then instantly switch battery when low. Worth the investment if usually no one is home and u buy a lot of things from online.

Xiaomi recently released a reasonable priced doorbell cam with optional display. Tempting.

Other than the usual nest/ring/Xiaomi anyone use those cheap China brand ones? There are some costing 60-80 on Lazada.

Nest aware only get you video recording and intelligent alerts iirc.
Without it, ppl push bell one still get notified. Every tiny alert will show up.
Subscription also not expensive these days.

I wired my 2 chimes on 2 floors, change out transformer. Not troublesome to do.. took me 1hrs to do it.

Those using ring. Is the notification instant? Live view also no lag? Motion detection and recording reliable? Assuming distance to router no issue.

I know Xiaomi has alot of lag issues as server is probably in China.. the price diff is big, not sure if ring is worth it..

Where did you all buy extra battery pack for ring?

I wun say is all depend on ur internet connection at home and your data network..

I always at oversea.. i wun say quite instant and then i go live view if connection stable i should be able to see it quite fast..

So if u always in sg then it should have no issues...

Yes

But of course if you are talking about catching shoe thieves the video clips will come handy for the police

How do you guys install all these doorbells? Need to drill hole into the door? Mine is new bto. Thinking of getting Xiaomi one which comes with 3m tape but not sure people can just rip up and go?

It was not for that la.

If there should be a genuine concern for such monitoring the cloud subscription will come handy.
