The advantage of Nest-google/ring-amazon is their ecosystem integration , ai cloud and simplicity of their app for non tech savvy folks like me..

Nest Aware detects familiar faces pretty decently even with masks on.

Or else a Poe 4k cams, dedicated terminal running blueiris etc , NAS will give more control and sharper videos..

Are there no more privacy issues or is it a non issue for yourself, may I ask?

Previously Google and Amazon got called out for not telling people they record people's voices to send to their agents to verify whats being said. Of course they did this to improve their products but if Im not wrong, they did not tell users.

I was actually contemplating video doorbells vs cams also. Could you point me to a thread regarding POE cams or some product recommendations to get me started?

Apple google facebook etc all have their teething privacy issues. To a certain degree I fine with these issues, various threshold for various folks. I cannot tinfoil go dark and not use their services, but I am not on social media :s13:

Try reddit. There are threads about nest cam vs poe cams. I am not very tech savy, I just need all my devices to work together and be accessible on one or two apps the most.

Hi, I'm planning to get the Nest Hello and was thinking I need to drill a hole between my DB box and the wall to the doorbell button outside in order to connect a transformer (plugged into power outlet inside DB). What is this existing wiring you are referring to?

Not sure if my plan is wrong, so just want to make sure :s12:

BTO normally will have a doorbell switch outdoor beside the gate. The other point should be at the kitchen. Can jump to page 6. Someone posted photos.

Power adaptor > kitchen doorbell point > outdoor doorbell replace with Nest Hello.

You can always drill across but be sure there is no hidden wiring inbetween the wall.

Oh I see, you're referring to installing the chime at the kitchen doorbell point. Do you mean the current wiring cannot support the Nest doorbell, therefore need to use power adaptor?

Am planning to use this transformer to plug into the outlet in my DB, drill a hole from DB to the outside wall, and connect the Nest Hello to this. However it won't be connected to the chime then...

The kitchen doorbell point to outdoor switch is just 2 wires.

The link you shared is exactly the power adaptor i mentioned in my earlier post.

Chime is optional. I did a direct connection without the chime.

Is it correct to say that you didn't use the 2 wires of the kitchen bell point to outdoor switch, and just use the power adaptor ones instead? Sorry for the many questions, just new to this :(

Sorry if I'm not clear. I'm using the original wires from the doorbell point provided by hdb.

Buy the power adaptor..end of adaptor will be 2 wire ends.

Connect the adaptor wires to the doorbell point in your kitchen.

There will be another similar end as above at your outdoor doorbell switch. Connect that end to your nest hello.

What you doing is just to supply power to the nest.

Instead of drilling a hole to connect direct from adaptor to nest hello

Power adaptor >> nest hello

You can skip the drilling by relay the power via the original doorbell wires.

Power adaptor >> original doorbell wires >> nest hello

Power adaptor > kitchen doorbell point > outdoor doorbell replace with Nest Hello.

You can always drill across but be sure there is no hidden wiring inbetween the wall.

Maybe you can plug your bell point's wire into a 13 amp socket without earth.

Then outside the flat, connect the two wires to become a 13 amp power point with weather proof cover. You can buy those wall power socket with 5v 1A USB points. The unused power point will come in handy when you need a power point outside your flat.

I checked with Lazada local seller, to replace the battery is like S$80 to $120.

Free if under warranty.

At this pricing, might as well get new unit.

Better avoid this model in the beginning then.
