California drivers take note: the new law does not take effect until January 1, 2009.

The new law, however, has an odd clause that specifies the GPS must be mounted within "a 7-inch square area in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver (the passenger side) or in a 5-inch square area in the lower corner of the windshield nearest to the driver (the lower left corner of the windshield)." That means the most common and useful front-and-center GPS windshield mount is still banned. Also, many standard GPS power cords are not long enough to reach from a power port, all the way to the lower corners of a windshield (not to mention the increased wire clutter created by these corner mounting locations).

There's alot of things U can do just don't get caught. eg. Car seats or child booster seat. Can don't use for young kids, just don't get caught.

when to stop for what, just read the DMV driving manual. its all written there, no need further explanation. should take 1 more than 30mins to go thru it.

regarding the GPS... my friend told me you can buy from BestBuy and return and get the full refund back.... seems like a good deal... lol.. any recommendation of which brand of GPS to get? Garmin itself has so many models... don't know which to get...

30 days return policy is good isn't it?
u can get GPS from bestbuy, target, walmart, and frys.
since u abusing the return policy get pay for the most expensive GPS there.
get those with traffic.

thanks for all advices... i will be making a car rental reservation through the website... in which i can choose which insurance to take... so shouldn't be a problem right?

The car rental agencies i'm looking at is Hertz, AVIS and Budget.. any comments on any of these agencies?

Also consider the company http://www.pointcarhire.com for car rental. Usually I approach this as always able to find quite reasonably priced deals with them. There car variety is also too good.

LOL, guess what 2-3 decades ago the return policy was 1yr!!! all those asian students are abusing it to the fullest.
now its 30days some items 15days.

US Economy not recovering got nothing to do with the policy, few Ang Mo abuse the system only a handful of ppl abuse that.
They can go to Canada and play this same game.

Singapore not a offence here? I gather police don't care! our police dept have the $$ don't have to enforce such rule

I would think that it is Singapore police that don't need the money instead, whereas US police need your fine money to make ends meet.

tell me about it.....i remember once i saw some asian gal wearing a branded dress and she didn't realise that the tag which she left on was dangling out from the collar!!!

honestly...i'm very disgusted with such behavior. i admit i'm a cheapo myself....buying only stuffs that are cheap or on sale....but to buy something to use with the full intention of returning it is just a bit too much....that's really...cheapskate.

read the handbook man, besides stop signs there are a few more places where they demand a complete stop.
eg. right turn on a red/orange light even when there are no cars

We rented a car and drove around in SF and LA. Diddn't drive in Vegas. Relatively smooth and easy. Hertz Neverlost GPS was very easy to use.

And US drivers are much more friendly and kind, they'll just stop and let you cross the road. Something that will never happen in Singapore lol...

Agree that they'll stop and let u cross the road, some road junction like Singapore use the green man at the traffic light to cross the road......

How was the parking in SF? Did you stay a night between SF and LA or u went Gilroy then chiong

Which car did you rent? Haha sorry so many questions, going to be my turn soon. 3 of us but probably may have 4-5 luggage altogether so not sure which car to rent.

I bought a GPS from amazon,refurb set $70,after using probably just mail to my friend in US to use in future
