Oh it is very real. I know some of these people personally. In the end also end up divorce. Then marry who they want after parents realized the child cannot keep living the life they planned for them without feeling unhappy.

The thing with some of these old wealth families especially Asian is the elder is worried that the spouse will squander the wealth or is not worthy of inheriting it, or married for money then divorced and took money in the settlement etc

Some will make plans to create legal contracts so that the spouse doesn't have access to the money.

It is how rich people become rich and stay rich.

I agree, except that doctors tend to come from good backgrounds. That part is expected. WD isn’t the first doctor I know to come from a medical family.

At some point, you’re just gambling with your children’s lives. It’s pretty indefensible. No matter how much money you have, you have only one life to live/give. Marrying into unimaginable wealth is pointless if you spend the rest of your life regretting it.

It’s the Poor Little Rich Girl syndrome. I used to wonder how the stereotype could be valid. Then I realised it was quite simple. People who are busy making money have less time for parenting. It’s a fixed pie.

Another thing that came to mind is that if she found someone she liked and loved on her own, whether that person would meet the approval of her parents. So the bar is set very high for these people.

To be honest, many of the new houses built in the past 10 years are of very poor quality.

My life is pretty good here. I work long hours, but at least I am fairly compensated for overtime, which is a luxury that many of my counterparts in Singapore or other developed countries do not enjoy.

The only thing that is annoying is the tax, but there is no perfect country I guess.

I would love to but the salary in Sydney is too low; it is way higher in Perth.

And the housing prices here are still quite cheap. So Perth is kind of the "goldilocks" region in regards to salary and housing prices.

Nah I bought my own place last year. But I am looking out for an investment property at a good price.
