Just curious if you are on eight 4g local, overseas you only can 4g or 5g as well?

on eight 5g you get overseas 5g.

Looks like the S$10.8 5G plan becomes permanent and the S$11.8 4G plan is gone. Good move from eight.

Not counting SIMBA, M1 Maxx S$10 plans and StarHub Prepaid S 5G S$10 plan used to the cheapest regular 5G plan without special promotion codes or things like that (not counting 4G plans with 180 days or half year 5G trial). Now M1 Maxx regular 5G plan is at S$12 per month. StarHub Prepaid 5G Core plan is at S$15 per month.

eight 5G plan at S$10.8 seems to be the cheapest regular non-SIMBA 5G plan now.

Maybe I will sign up a new line to try out and compare it with my StarHub Prepaid S 5G (S$3 per month special migration offer for Happy Prepaid Card users in Nov 2025, no more such offers).

My eight 4G line is used by my wife for her roaming needs this year.

agree, I ported my Maxx $10 5G plan to this eight 5G plan and so far been having better network coverage in general.

Did you try sending an SMS to a +65 number while overseas via VoWiFi (activated in Singapore, and in Airplane Mode to assure you’re using it)?

Haven't tried, I think Eight SMS from overseas will not work even with VoWiFi as SMS rides on SS7 signaling while VoWiFi is over packet data. I can be wrong.

If there's a problem, that won't be the problem. The VoWiFi specifications support SMS text messages. Refer to GSMA Publication IR.51: "IMS Profile for Voice, Video and SMS Over Wi-Fi."

However, practically anything is possible from a carrier point of view. I tried to run some tests with an iPhone, but I don't have a Faraday Cage with Wi-Fi inside — Airplane Mode on an iPhone doesn't seem to work for these testing purposes. Android phones might offer easier testing options. Bear in mind Eight's Web site says absolutely nothing about VoWiFi. If anything VoWiFi works with Eight, it's an undocumented bonus.

eight 5G should be better, but depending on locations some users may complain about lack of 5G coverage.

StarHub/M1 5G network coverage at the Jurong West areas (say from Pioneer to Chinese Garden, including Taman Jurong) are not bad based on my own testing of M1 Maxx 5G and StarHub Prepaid 5G. Take note StarHub and M1 share the same 5G infrastructure.

StarHub 4G network coverage is also not bad.

BTW, some users say StarHub Prepaid 5G may have a bit better priority than eight 5G.

Anybody having issue like the sim card suddenly cannot work. Paid $5 change to eSim also cannot work.

Then yesterday afternoon received otp sms from giga and Whatsapp both i never request.

Wi-Fi calling is messy for Singapore telecom providers.

Basically SIMBA seems to be the only one which may be more consistent in this aspect based on the reports.
1) ST MVNOs: no support of VoWiFi at all, even in Singapore
2) ST: only in Singapore
3) M1 and M1 Maxx: only in Singapore
4) StarHub: only in Singapore
5) SIMBA: works when roaming
6) eight: may or may not work when roaming.
7) dual SIM phones may have some issues on one of the SIMs even if both SIMs support VoWiFi.

And for eight and SIMBA, even when VoWiFi may work during roaming, no confirmation that outgoing SMS is possible or not. Hopefully someone can confirm.

The $8 4G plan.

We mainly use the eight S$8 line for roaming. My wife also uses it as a backup line in Singapore.

Now she is in China for a three-week trip and eight S$8 4G plan (Physical SIM, Poco X6 Pro which is her backup phone) seems to work fine for roaming, along with Singtel hi! S$13 5G plan (eSIM, on the same iPhone 14 as her main Singtel S$15.28 SIM).

Just an update from my sim card issue. Requested 3 esim through eight website, all no signal.

Then got pple login my telegram using the number, but they cannot get into the app because the current logged in telegram device need approve the login. Managed to keep blocking it until i change to another number.

Now try luck go pasir ris see service center got open. Arbo need go down starhub ask for help because this might be another giga incident.

6.55pm: Changed to physical sim at service center. Still cannot work, no signal.

7.30pm: i try to port my supposed mobile eight number into giga, and giga said it's a giga number

I check my singpass app don't have request to get my myinfo data.

Strangely i received 2 otp sms from giga last night

9pm: changed my telegram phone number to another number, managed to stopped the persistent login request.

8 Jun 7am: Saw my eight mobile number just joined telegram at 3am because the number was in my contacts. 100% sure someone port my eight mobile number away.

As an active line being used locally, I won't rely on $8 4G plan. IMO only good for roaming, otherwise.

To be honest i have no idea what is going on besides my 3 esim and subsequently physical sim card is not working. Then somebody tried to login to my telegram initially using my eight mobile number while my sim card is not working.
1 possibility is starhub system released my number back into the new number pool and someone chose that number on giga

Better contact Eight to block the affected SIM Cards ... and report to official channel as suggested

seriously speaking, lion city is way behind other countries even bolehland in this aspect.

previously it took years to get VoLTE/VoWifi subsequently eSIM, even bolehland has this already.
and even bolehland telcos has eSIM option available and they can swap directly between iphones without visiting service centre.
