Is 8 internet service coming soon?

I tested 8 at Batam central area not bad, speed is not fast at a few mbps but manageable for smooth internet and whatsapp. Travel by boat to Batam almost reach Batam shoreline still can access 8 under Starhub.

Nice. As long as it is stable, a few Mbps is also good for many use cases already.

Of course it would be nicer to have 10 Mbps for 1080P YouTube.

For Eight Home Internet, please go to the following thread.

5G also cmi sia..

Where are the locations Eight 5G is not good? Thanks.

Certain locations SingTel 5G also cui (but improved a lot in 2025 compared to last year because of 700 MHz band. Before 2025, often totally no signal).

Note: this is above the ground, industrial building, west side.

Fresh test result.
Singtel 5G, NSA, B28, -109 dBm.

Eight 4G is better in this location.

8 has been unusable for me in Shenzhen today.

I keep getting the error message with Alipay WeChat at the most inconvenient times in spite of having full signal. (Eg Generating the Transport QR code).

Can’t even serve the web at times until I switch from 5G to 4G and switch on off airplane mode.

Parents with SIMBA just chilling away…

no problem surfing hwz forums and google is the only upside.

I am on the $18 5G plan. No point in having generous data allowance when you can’t access it.

Was your 8 mobile roaming on the same network as your parents' simba?

for me, i find that eight performs better than simba in China, hence simba is my backup line.
eight connects to CM, Simba to CT.
(Am told that the situation reverses in Xinjiang and Tibet. Will be trying that out soon.)

just my experience.

If most of the time can connect 5G with this speed then $18 worth it too.
But my friend recently took the 5G pack mostly can get 5G at some Mrt and inside Shopping complex only.

Hmm, 5G coverage of StarHub/M1 combined network should be pretty okay for outdoor areas and many buildings.

Reference from StarHub (note: 5G NSA will be shut down soon as per IMDA directive).
https://www.starhub.com/business/products-and-services/5g/coverage.html

giga/Eight/MyRepublic 5G/Maxx/Cuniq 5G coverage should be similar. The feedback from M1 Maxx thread seems to say Maxx 5G is good but 4G is not good (known issue with M1 4G network).

Anyway, I am getting M1 Maxx to test out as well. So I will check the 5G coverage.

so your conclusion is that Starhub/Giga/Eight 4G network is ok (usable) generally?

Not yet, just used for a few days, not tested on the MRT lines. Need to carry out the test over this weekend, including East West MRT from Boon Lay to Changi Airport.

I am going to use Eight S$8 plan for at least three months. I will need to test North South Line and Circle Line as well.

For my typical weekday usage (home, Jurong Point, Bus trip to work, workplace, all in the Jurong area), indeed Eight 4G seems to be good enough, with good signal strength. Speed is not fast but good enough for daily usage.

Now the question is how good Eight 4G will be over the weekend.

Some important places around the MRT: Boon Lay, Lakeside, Jurong East, Clementi, Buona Vista, City Hall, Orchard, Botanic Garden, Bishan, Toa Poyah, Changi Airport, ...

BTW, I say that I will keep using Eight 4G for at least three months, but I may also keep it much longer to complement my main SingTel SIM Only S$15.28 per month line.

I have compared features of Eight, M1 Maxx and SIMBA, and Eight will be my top pick among the three to keep as my secondary line.

Likely scenario:

Singtel SIM Only (5G/4G): main line

Eight 4G: may keep as secondary line.

Maxx 5G/4G: trying out, then port out to SIMBA, then terminate. I may not even go with SIMBA trial.

StarHub (Star) Prepaid S (5G/4G): not yet available to me, waiting for conversion from my old StarHub Prepaid number. This will be mainly for number parking purpose (supposed to have 120 days grace period). I will also use it to try StarHub 5G during the first month.

But singtel is still the better option? Haha. Can't wait to port out in Jan. Think too many in eight already. Machiam eight is like the previous simba now haha

1) Yes, I will say Singtel SIM Only S$15.28 per month plan will still be my preferred main line in 2026. Take note I don't care too much about roaming.

2) BTW, I always use either StarHub and Singtel as my main telecom providers, no matter for postpaid mobile, prepaid mobile, Broadband (Cable and then Fibre) and Pay TV.

My first mobile line: StarHub, in year 2000

First Broadband under my name: StarHub Cable Online in year 2004

First Pay TV: SingTel MIO TV in year 2012 (terminated in 2024)

Current active services: SingTel Fibre, StarHub Fibre, Singtel SIM Only lines x 2 StarHub Prepaid S plan used by my daughter (she does not allow me to use her mobile phone for testing).

3) Getting the M1 Maxx line is the first time I ever try M1.

Simba and Eight both usable in china. Some location one is better then the other.
The only plus point is Simba is very generous on roaming data china

Wow, you really have a lot of Mobile lines now.

Haha, I used SunPage Pager for a while.

SingTel 56K bps dial-up and SingTel ADSL 256 Kbps as well, but that was under my brother's name.

M1 Maxx is only for testing purpose. I don't think I will keep it for long.
