if u hardly in bolehland and just once in a while roam there u could never know.

and many time it is not no coverage but it is with coverage NO data moving.
this is very common in bolehland.
manually select of course could potentially solve this issue but hassle is there as well.
Not that surprising given the lack of investment, poor infrastructure, insufficient cell towers etc.

It's more surprising for first world city like London to be so bad in their mobile network connectivity and reliability.

Initially, I thought it's my eight roaming issue when I was in London. But luckily I had another roaming line and the performance is more or less the same. Vodafone UK is quite bad.

not surprise, i would say country with bigger geographical area will always face this issue.

it requires 4 x more towers to cover 5G for the same coverage as 4G.

most of the company will hardly invest so much to cover everywhere, if popular places can get reasonable speed already quite lucky.

They have been on the downward spiral from the moment Boris Johnson decided to remove all Huawei network equipment from the UK. It's more self inflicted that anything.

Japan is bigger than UK and they are much better with their mobile connectivity. At least you don't often get dropped connections in the city centre.

Anyway, my point is actually to emphasize that roaming performance is very much more dependent on the destination countries mobile network than our home service provider.

So next time when anyone feel like scolding eight when roaming is bad, go lookup if the locals are facing issues with their mobile networks.

Another contributing factor is priority. Roaming userswill be given lowest priority compared to the local users so that is the reason why buying respective local SIM always feel connection is much better.

Good point. I believe lower priority should generally mean lower speed unless you're in very crowded areas.

But for certain cities, it's so bad that sometimes the connection is practically dead with the circle of death even just walking out in the street.

Lowest priority also means if there are too many users, you will always be left out in the network. So it seems normal that it will behave this way especially if the partner is even given the lowest priority with the local telco among its many other roaming partners.

Hi all. I'm with Eight on $8 plan. My main balance is $4. I have credit card for next recharge. The app is deducting $8 direct from credit card every month. I was under the impression that $4 from main balance will be used first before deduction from credit card. How to use the $4 in the main balance?

Top up S$4 to your main wallet. You can use online shops, say from Shopee.

Otherwise just top up $4 with your credit card using the app.

Anyone upgrade their plan while overseas? Cos I want to use up my existing 2gb roaming first then switch to higher plan to use the 8gb roaming data.
