i remember there is post saying raid such as from amd sb850 or Intel ICH-R is not supported in esx or esxi.

how about IBM ServeRaid M1015, on the pdf it says support esx/esxi 4.0/4.1. is that mean it support raid 0 in the setup?

yes 10 char. but why chiu want to use raid0 ? for speed ar? :o

4.1 can upgrade to 5.0 easily for eSxi....

but esxi5.0 limited to 8GB ram only - dunno whether it can go 16gb since the licensing scheme changed recently again..

5.0 totally removed ESX (which i am using for my enterprise)...and they charged by virtual ram instead of sockets...

really needed to check properly if i need to upgrade or not.

you still using ESX 4.1 ar.. for what purpose?

Scripting ar?

If you have no need for basic 3D, Storage DRS or better HA functionality, then i think 4.1 is stable enough. afterall, it is still supported till 2014.

what version are you now ?

I am trying to built a ESXi server.

I am looking for compatible motherboard preferably

1) in-built VGA
2) support at least 8GB
3) Intel i5/i7
4) Run ESXi 4.1

Also, intel VT is more on the chip or motherboard??

first, mainboard must support intel VT CPU with bios option for virtualization - usually the case if you purchase cpus and mainboard today.

You need an additional Intel / broadcom compatible nic card as well unless you are using server-grade with compatible onboard nic
