Just sharing, withdraw some SGD from taiwan DBS atm about 4 days ago, rate was 23.42, not bad.

Then purchased with mastercard rate was 23.40. (Selected TWD)

Errr, to keep things in perspective, the diff between 23.7 vs 23.9, is only extra NTD200 (around SGD8.50) for every SGD1,000. No doubt is still savings lar, but no point changing more than you need just cos the exchange rate is good wor. If it goes until 25, then its another matter altogether :s13:

Bro, why dun u go change back at money changer? Will lugi a bit though.

Think no one will want to change with random people cos scared fake notes etc. So they rather change at money changer.

My 2 cents

Couple of benefits

First: When going to foreign countries I feel that it is always good to have small change - moneychanger won't sell me any.
Then upon return I am always saddled with leftover coins - that moneychangers won't buy back any. :s13:

Second: Convenience - really depends on the individual's location. For me the nearest money changer is a some distance away, whereas when you deal with someone else directly you meet at mutually convenient location/time.

Third: Hate queueing - Any half decent moneychanger at Raffles/Chinatown will have a queue, the better the longer... :s22:

Fourth: Better rate - normally found by taking the middle between buy and sell rate so both parties gain. I agree it may be so small that it could easily be outweighed by other considerations... that's why i would rank this the lowest consideration here :s13:

Obviously to reduce risk of fraud, if you are unfamiliar with the feel and look of the foreign currency then it may offer greater piece of mind to get it from a moneychanger, or get a Citibank ATM and make a nearly-free withdrawals globally... ;););)

The other disadvantage I can think of is that the concept of "reserving" the currency for a deal later in the week/month etc cannot apply here, for obvious reasons.

Exactly, stupid :s8:

Obviously no one is going to drive from Tuas or cab over from Changi to change with me in the central area - it's case of 方便就好.
