Feedback on PMP course centre

Hi

I am scheduled to take my PMP exam at Bras Basah (NTUC LearningHub) soon. I understand that we are not allowed to bring anything into the exam room and have to lock our belongings in the locker.

I went to the test centre for a recce; there is no locker facilities there, just rooms.

Any one who has taken exams there can share your experience?

Took test there in Feb, got put my things there in locker. Can't remember much, haha, more focus in test. If i didn't remember wrongly it's quite strict, can't even bring own tissue in, but I inform the person there and they bring in a small box of tissue for me to use, also got ear block for you in case the other candidates are too noisy =).

Hi guys,

Like some advice from PMP/ITIL bros.

I have ITIL-OSA, is it still relevant to take PMP?
Reason being many employers specifying PMP-certified as a requisite
even though I have project lead experience.

Another qns, since I have attended ITIL foundation and OSA. That qualifies me with 48PDUs which is enough to take PMP course right?

Sharing my experience. Did my PMP exam at Informatics in Jurong last month. Quite out of the way if you stay nowhere near west, but parking is free there. My exam was 9am, but was there 8.30am. The Prometric centre opened at about 8.40am and the guy-in-charge asked for my IC and Credit Card (for photo ID and signature sample respectively). They just want to make sure your sign in/out signature matches, I guess. All your personal belongings including your watch has to be put into the locker. If you want to wear a jacket in, you cannot remove it. They provided ample pieces of paper, pencils and an eraser. I got to start at 8.45am after all the admin stuff. First 15min was familiarization of the system + brain dump of formulae/notes on paper, but if you think you are ready you can actually just start the test. For me, I just ran through the system tutorial in about 3 min, did not need to do a brain dump. Started the test after 5 min in, took a toilet break in between (you will need to sign out and sign back in), came back to review questions then clicked complete to finish my exam. Most agonising part was to wait for the system to tabulate your score; just that couple of seconds. Took a total of 2.5hrs to finish and pass my exam.

I took the PMP exam this morning at NTUC. The locker is beside the exam registration/sign-in counter.

I passed the exam.

Had a unpleasant encounter with 1 of the training center.
1. Attend course on 29 March (1 day) and to continue rest of 4 days during early May as to catch up for the CITREP 80% claim.
2. During May, class was cancel due to poor response. So LL go early June. Ended up with only 3 students in June.
3. PMBOK given was version 3. Need wait another 3 weeks for version 4 to arrived.
4. After passing the credential process from PMI, send email to them for payment for exam. In a letter from them is suppose to be 1 week they will settle for you. Ended up already more than 3 weeks liao still never pay for my exam.

Any bro here went to CASE before to complaint about course center?

Passed my exam yesterday,and below are my exam experience;

Calculation - they are pretty straight forward, need to know how to calculate free float, earned value, payback period and expected monetary calculations. Memorize those formulas.
Conflict methods - know the different types of conflict technique, able to analyze base on different scenarios
Know the power of PM - formal, reward, penalty, expert etc
Alot of questions will be tested based on knowledge areas and their input/output, tools and technique, know when to apply which type of tools and techniques - again, depend on the questions scenario
There has been alot of questions coming out from Quality Management and Professional and social responsibility. Understand what PM should do base on code of ethics from PMI are important as well.
A number of questions asked about types of organization - projectized, functional and matrix (strong and weak)

Study method:
Know your gaps
Understand the tools and techniques use
Understand the input/output of each process
Know what are the types of constraints - scope, time, cost
Know how to do calculations
Strongly recomemmend on Rita's book
Definition of earned value measurement (All)

I pass PMP in early June at Ntuc - after postpone one time due to work, but luckily can find another slot soon - pass the first time, no stress, so very happy Actually got some stress but over already so forget la.

I agree with Sky2001 on the exam feedback. The calc qs are quite easy if you know your formula and which one to apply.

I find the non-calc qs more difficult bcs answer not so obvious one. For this reason I don't find the Rita book that good - can be too simple and very long winded for no reason. Luckily for me the qs I get from my training are more difficult and really make me think and understand - so I can answer the exam qs more easily. I think I got most of it right... since I pass first time. Ha! Ha!

Sorry to hear about bioinformatic experience with bad training center. I think u should report to Case and IDA also (if they are also under Citrep grant) so that others dont get the same nonsense. If they charge very low means something not right la. Good and cheap can find at hawker center but for good training then not so la.

Anyway I very happy with my trainer Charles Lim and the training center - highly recommended by people I know who went first and all payment very smooth. I already submitted to IDA my 80% claim so hope to get check soon. Good luck to all going for PMP!

Ask the course center for my attendance for citrep claim, guess what? they had lost my attendance sheet. bloodly center.

Yes, bioinformatic, it is good to share which center you had the bad experience so others will be more careful. Since this center is also Citrep, hope you have let IDA know. If they have lost your attendance I think IDA will still allow the claim if you explain properly.

I also have a friend which IDA allow to switch from company sponsored to individual sponspred bcs she explain she quit her job same time she pass the PMP exam and the old company ask her to pay back the fees. Her old company also help by emailing IDA to support her reason. I think when reason is good, IDA can help one.

Yes - 50% now is correct. Until March 2011 it was 80% - so if you take the course before that ( i took my course last year) and pass within one year then can claim 80%.

just to chime in here, I am part of the first batch who enrolled at PMChamp.com workshop and I would highly recommend it. Two Thumbs Up!

The training materials became easier to understand plus I like the tricks benefited a lot from my workshop experience, the mock exams are a good foundation to be confident about the actual exams.

I passed my PMP this month.

I failed once and pass in the second attempt. Prepare and prepare that's what I can advise u. I think of citrep claim rather then career advancement first. So far I don't know it helps or not but a lot pple say it does.

I find that headhunters may notice a PMP more, and possibly open more doors to interviews; some jobs specifically ask for a PMP.

But of course, it is not a guarantee.
