I was down at AV One yesterday to try the X1 player and while I got to know the preorder price, i won't be sharing it here out of respect for AV One. If they are ok with announcing the preorder price, they would have announced it already.

However, i will share with you some thoughts of the products. I found the UI to be surprisingly capable and lag free, compared to my past experiences with China-made DAPs. I think that with greater usage, I will be more fluent and quicker with getting from one function to another. However, it's quite idiotproof and I can easily do what I want with it using my common sense.

Screen is obviously not "retina" but more than good enough for its price.

Soundwise, it's hard to say since it's down to preference, but I found the EQ to be more effective compared to others as when I flip through the different settings, the change in sound signature is VERY obvious. With the custom setting, you should be able to tune it to your liking.

Ergonomics wise, it's very comfortable to hold and use and I can reach all buttons with one hand easily. I would have been willing to pay more for it to be made out of aluminium but again, the build quality is more than adequate considering the price.

The only thing I'm unhappy about is the scroll wheel. I found the surface of the wheel to be too smooth, giving me the impression that I'm slipping on the wheel when trying it turn it. This can be solved by just pressing harder on the wheel but again, I think the surface can be better designed to be less smooth and to provide more friction.

Edit: Also want to point out that the labelling for the 4 buttons is in a different shade of silver and hence can be very hard to see in bright light. The labelling should have been done in black.

Overall, it's a must-buy for me considering it's pricing, sound quality, size and the inclusion of a line-out which I did not try out. However, I will wait till the black color scheme is out before purchasing it.

ETA is probably early Oct.

haha interesting, they told me $139 yesterday.

At $129.90, I would have gone for it yesterday. Oh well.

From what I heard, the pre-order price set by Fiio cannot be lower than $130 (+/- 10 cent accepted I think).
Maybe because Fiio's online price for the X1 is US$99.
I believed few shops already set their pre-order price at $130, so take your pick where you wanna place your order.
