废话again. WP members wouldn’t be in the cabinet even if they win all seats contested. they wouldn’t have the opportunity of getting anyone in their team to take over DPM Gan’s work. But by saying this, PM Wong is indirectly saying his team doesn’t have anyone capable enough to take over DPM Gan’s work.
.. and no contingency planning too.

Doomed for SG if a ruling party with super majority lacks both.

In the interview on channel 8 news tonight, GKY was asked about his tenure in Punggol GRC should he be elected. He gave a very non committal answer that he will continue if he is needed. From the face expression can tell he also not really that keen to continue. He’s probably not that keen to be deployed to Punggol this time but no choice when the party decides he should go there

Really feels like he won't contribute much anymore. Anyway, he and LW don't really have any star power other than the fact they are PM and DPM.

this lawrence ah..
i always root for him... as the PM
stress must have got to him..
now always make all sorts of illogical assumptions.

if PAP remain in power, you should be asking yourself who in PAP can fill the void , given PAP deep talent pool.

MAS is not the one that stopped the deal. It's the new law created that forces MAS to stop it. That law was created due to public interest in the deal. Pap and LW are desperate and trying to BS Singaporeans

Yea, MAS initially greenlit the deal and some PAP MPs endorse the sales. It was pushback from the PAP old guards that resulted in the eventual blockage. LW is spinning alternate truths, not surprising given his calibre.

He also said that as chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), DPM Gan deserved credit for stopping the deal between Income Insurance and German insurer Allianz, after questions were raised about Income’s ability to continue its social mission after the sale.

“It was the Government that stopped the deal, and it was MAS chaired by Gan Kim Yong that proposed new legislation that enabled us to stop the deal.”

At a rally on April 28, Mr Harpreet Singh, one of the WP’s Punggol candidates, had called on the Deputy Prime Minister to respond to an open letter from former Income chief executive Tan Suee Chieh that questioned his role in the deal.

Responding alongside PM Wong, DPM Gan said the deal was debated extensively in Parliament, and there was ample opportunity for MPs to raise questions on the matter.

“Many MPs raised questions, and we answered all the questions. So I think the whole process was transparent and upfront, and we had opportunities for MPs to ask questions on all aspects of the deal,” he told reporters.

There was extensive debate before the Insurance Act was amended to block the Allianz-Income deal, Mr Gan added.

PM Wong noted that Mr Tan had credited him and the Government with stopping the deal.

“But actually he shouldn’t credit me. He should be crediting Gan Kim Yong, in MAS, because they amended the Insurance Act in order that we have the legislative ability to put a stop to the deal,” said the Prime Minister.

“We are the ones who ensured it didn’t happen.”

All these talks about who is so important because he or she is needed to do this work and nobody else can do a better job is forgetting the purpose of an election. Every 5 years we elect the members of parliament to represent us. From them, a pm is elected, who will then appoint the ministers. Now at this point, there are no mps, no ministers, no pm, and sg runs smoothly. If this person is so important, an example of which i can think about the most important person is the pm, then why involve him in the election? What if he loses, then who is going to be the pm? Might as well exempt him from ge and safeguard sg from disasters. (or does it?)

Gan KY is a good person, down to earth. But my opinion is sometimes DPM role and trade negotiations must be a cunning person in order to strike a better deals since US always flip-flop, threaten and make empty promises.

You cannot put a down-to-earth person to deal with a trade war thugs and delinquent, Gan is not the right person for this tariff problem. Maybe Vivian Balakrishnan would be a better candidate to do these foreign conversations.

But if just want to based on existing appointment for MTI, Gan is still the key personnel responsible for trade and industry.

GKY suddenly become more powerful than all the beings in the world combined!

Uk lost Boris/Cameron,
Usa lost Biden/Obama/Bush,
Sgp lost LKY/ Goh...... countries collapsed?

Microsoft lost BillGates, Apple lost SteveJobs, corporates collapsed?

A country/company don't depend on 1-man, 2-men.
