Had the impression that 5g only works for USA set. So buying from UK does not matter anyways?

Thanks! Then like that order from Amazon usa or uk cheaper?

You can read the previous page where some of them had commented on buying from USA and the possibility of being cancelled if you are using a forwarder address. Not worth the effort to buy from US.

Any idea why is not like 4G which we can just pop the 4G plan SIM card in and it will work for almost all phone. Google lock the 5G bands? Or due to our telco 5G configuration?
is software locked on google’s end.. it is only enable on those countries that google are selling on.. at least for now.

Google also one of a kind, like that also want to software lock. Unlocked set mean unlocked all yet :s22:

you really have ZERO clue how it works right? lol....

technically google did not lock anything. they just didn't put in the necessary configurations and settings. similar to how only singtel and starhub get Volte and wifi-calling on P3 onwards.

Why would you buy from US when there is Amazon UK that ship Pixel 5 directly to SG. :s11: Beside the fact that US variant support UWB, the rest is the same.

since when Pixel 5 UWB? you know what is UWB? don't know don't anyhow post.
Pixel 5 US variant has additional 5G mmWave antennas that works on bands n260,n261

"What is Ultra Wideband?
UWB is a short-range, wireless communication protocol that – like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi – uses radio waves. But it differs substantially in that it operates at a very high frequency. As its name denotes, it also uses a wide spectrum of several GHz. One way to think of it is as a radar that can continuously scan an entire room and precisely lock onto an object like a laser beam to discover its location and communicate data."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_5G_NR_networks
As listed. singapore's telco's mmwave deployment is on band n257!

So even if one day Google wakes up their idea and decide to fully support 5G and mmwave. the US Variant's mmwave will NOT work in Singapore.

So this begs the question: why are people in Singapore looking for and paying extra for US pixel 5?
Want a Pixel 5. Get one direct from Amazon UK DIRECT! if memory serves me right, no one here that brought from amazon uk has complained of issue with the logistics and payment. For that matter, consider pixel 4a 5G as well from amazon uk direct.

pixel 4a 5G and Pixel5 are very very good LTE handsets. much better than 4a on the LTE front.

Just did a search on IMDA's equipment list. This is a precursor to launching any telco devices in singapore

And guess what Google GTT9Q is just listed TODAY 5th Jan! Meaning the launch locally is imminent! So What price locally? SGD849? SGD799?

My speculation is that it will be launched with one or two telcos and then 5G will be enabled for those telcos. And this will mean those with imported P5 will also get 5G turn on for those telcos.

https://eservice.imda.gov.sg/tls/searchEquipment.action

so to all the carohell flippers of US sets going at 1300... good luck.

my take is 8++ locally.. inline with japan and taiwan pricing.

just thinking aloud.
if this launch is imminent. doesn't it also mean that the jan update for P5 will have come with 5G support for local telcos??!!
Any brave souls wanna test on their updated P5.
GTT9Q is exactly the same as the UK SKU.

If I recall correctly there have also been instances where phones registered with IMDA were subsequently not sold in Singapore still, though I can’t be sure about the frequency or extent of this happening.

Looking at the global shortage of supply (Amazon UK has not had stocks for a very long, long time), not sure whether we can really expect Google to bring Pixel 5 to Singapore anytime soon. But definitely hopeful.
