I feel google never test internally and research users before launch, or a very rush product to sell as a marketing gimmick. Google add sth and remove thereafter bc they realized users feedback not well-received -> points back to them never do detailed research prior. Soli discontinued due to over-promise under-delivered capability so poor take up rate haha; better remove then maybe if improve better nx time can add again which i doubt so

We know google likes experimenting with new stuff and that's good as own research data, but looks bad to sell to real buyers as guinea pigs.

Price is always a factor in any products.
Eg. pixel 5 ~USD$700 for an inferior midrange soc, those people who bought this will feel so stupid now. The perceived value of pixel 5 just doesn't bode well (with me)

The price and perceived value must match so people feel good buying again imo :o
Actually if Google unlocks all the US only features such as call screening etc. in SG, I'd get a pixel 5 no questions asked even with disparate hardware and pricing.

Mmm maybe it's just me who can't justify usd700 (sgd1k) for a midrange chipset, compounded by lacklustre hardware....

Money not easy to earn these days :(

Fast hand fast leg wor
As much as I would like the Pixel 6, the below points make me choose the Pixel 5a instead

1. High Price and no local warranty
2. Tensor chip is still in its 1st iteration, normally future iterations would be better
3 Dun like the ugly camera bump

I agree, given Google's history of hardware problems. Shall wait out then.

Dunno why but their pixels series feels like a experimental phone :s13:

Hopefully 6 doesn't disappoint, it seems like the only interesting android phone this year. :o

Because not every new feature of a phone is hardware based.

Many hardware improvement you cannot really experience the difference but some software improvement can affect user experience significantly.

Wait for your review, serious because I feel the price is reasonable :o

Google don't have early bird discount for preorder buyers?

I feel it all ties back to the overall price:value ratio

Eg. Pixel 5a is priced correctly for a midrange chipset. Also, there is a real world difference between flagship and midrange soc.

Hardware specs cannot be underestimated, esp when it comes to task demanding apps. Lastly how well the phone ages few years down the road to display signs of lag and stutter :(

Another thing to note is google can never challenge apple and Samsung in term of units sold. their cost will be higher. if the demand is more, price will mover lower.

Agree that internally, they made bad choices and decisions.

If only it have wireless charging.. i would be tempted.. but for now i still settle with 4a 5G since most spec are similar.. plus 4a 5G got other color option..

https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-5a-video-overheat/
We tested the following devices when recording at 4K 60 FPS at roughly 70°F room temperature (21°C), to see whether or not this is a problem unique to the Google Pixel 5a.

  • ZenFone 8 (18 min warning, 27 min forced stop)
  • Realme GT (stopped at 1:04 manually, no warning or forced stop)
  • Huawei P40 Pro (stopped at 1 hour manually, no warning or forced stop)
  • LG Velvet (stopped at 58 minutes manually, recorded at 4K30 because no 4K60 was available, no warning or forced stop)
  • Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro (stopped at 1 hour manually, no warning or forced stop)
  • Google Pixel 4 (stopped at 1 hour manually, no warning or forced stop)
  • Google Pixel 5a (9 minutes and 32 seconds in, recording was forcefully stopped by OS)
  • Google Pixel 5 (stopped at 1 hour manually, no warning or forced stop)
As you can see above, most devices handled long recording at 4K 60 FPS perfectly fine. The Google Pixel 5a not only stopped recording, but it stopped recording fairly quickly. Even the Google Pixel 5 with the same chipset was perfectly fine, though the ZenFone 8 struggled at the roughly-half -hour mark.
