Got the P7P to replace my ageing Huawei Mate20Pro last week.

Smile detection feature comparison
For Mate 20 Pro:
You enable this setting in camera settings only once until you decide to disable it.
It works for both front and rear cams (selfies by hand and group photos on a tripod)
There is no need to press the shuttle button when this setting is already enabled.
Image/s captured when smile is detected.
This mode is great when you want a higher resolution group photo using the rear cam.

For P7P,
The feature is only available on front cam settings and you need to re-enable it again if your Cam app was closed and restarted again.
It only works for the front cam for selfies / wefies.
You will still need to press the shuttle button first before the feature works.
Image/s captured when smile is detected.
This mode cannot be used when you want a higher resolution group photo using the rear cam.

In one week, our family departs to Korea for the autumn foilage season, I am torn and think to return the P7P as it is under 14 days return policy.

In terms of the UX perspective, I find my almost 4year old Mate still better. I am one who can adapt but it must be for better not worse. :-(

Open the seal and box already still can return? Or you ordered from Google store itself?

Just go and test out the camera in full. It's a good opportunity.

That's the thing I used to warn people whom coming in from a very strong customised android to stock android. Many won't like it cause of all the smaller features it provides. These are mainly because Chinese brand phones tend to heavily offer a lot more customisations as compared to Samsung or other non chinese brand phones.

On the other hand people whom using Samsung One UI for a couple of years will feel that stock android isnt far apart.

I came from 4 yrs on Mate 10. Only the launcher part took some getting used to leh. The rest I don't feel need to adapt that much... Maybe because I hadn't needed/used some features then, and thus not missing them now on p7p...

Oh, one thing I missed is the charging notification light. Coz I don't charge phone overnight, so it's quite troublesome to keep waking screen to see charge until how much % liao, before disconnecting charger...

Yes even coming from Oneplus near stock OS (prior to ColorOS). I too need to take some time to get use to pixel

With the screen now taking up all the avaliable real estate, modern phones now do not have separate led indicator. You probably need to get use to this. Just like the pixel people complaining abt not having rear fingerprint sensor.

Having used P7P about 2 weeks, I do think the 'pixel experience' is rather overrated. It's smooth and non bloated but not more so than other OS like One UI or Color Os. In fact, Samsung One UI got more useful features like one-hand gestures and bixby routine which really make using the phone so much easier.

Imo, the main reason to get the Pixel is for the camera, which is really god-level. Almost always guaranteed a good shot. But for day to day use, I think best to stick with Samsung, as much as I really hate their laggy camera.

Having used P7P about 2 weeks, I do think the 'pixel experience' is rather overrated. It's smooth and non bloated but not more so than other OS like One UI or Color Os. In fact, Samsung One UI got more useful features like one-hand gestures and bixby routine which really make using the phone so much easier.

Imo, the main reason to get the Pixel is for the camera, which is really god-level. Almost always guaranteed a good shot. But for day to day use, I think best to stick with Samsung, as much as I really hate their laggy camera.

Pixel experience not only limited to UX but also the pixel feature drops, fastest security updates etc.

It's a pity we do not have other pixel features such as call screening, hold for me etc... That would push it over the top.

Some features also haven't drop such as the call clarity.

For me coming from OnePlus it is a breath of fresh air.

Coming from Oneplus 7T, the only things I missed are the very useful enhancements made to stock Android.

I seldom use dash charge because of the heat. I rather charge slowly. The only time I use dash charge is when I need suddenly need to go out or I forgot to charge. Both seldom happened. So my parents 7T battery is still very good after 3 years.

As the bro above said, now I just leave my 7p on the slow usb charger overnight before I sleep.
