Maybe we can organize a mass order when someone itches for foreign brews. Oh the cafe "the new black" regularly brings in roasted coffee from reputable roasters. Might want to drop by their shop.

talk very long already.. let's do it!! ;)

The purpose of mass ordering is to save money.

I just checked for Red Brick, its a saving of about $3sgd per bag if you order 10bags(which is the max they'll deliver).

For Hasbean, it is actually more expensive if you order more. So no point.

Also, when the bags arrived, how is the collection gonna be like?
Are we gonna set up a place and time when everyone's free which imo is very troublesome.
Or just self collect? Which is also very troublesome for those who doesn't have their own transportation.

After tackling the above questions, the next one is, who is willing to volunteer and sacrifice their time to do this mass ordering with no beneficial returns except for gratitude? =:p

can do round robin since it's not a ONE off thing

I think for UK roasters in general, delivery cost is reasonable. Maybe MO for american roasters is more feasible?

Sharing this step by step guide on how to tune variable to when brewing. Espresso is also quite similar is some aspects but I think roast level generally required higher dose.

(Don't think there is a copyright issue for this. The flowchart is from a chefstep paid lesson but users are allowed to save and share. )

Wow you signed up for the course? Conducted by who? Charles and the LaMarzocco guy?

Sent from Samsung SM-N910G using GAGT

The package is by James Hoffman and ben Kaminski. So alot of their extraction theory is centred around getting the 20% extraction rate. They also proposed 7.5% brew ratio (7.5g of coffee for 100g of water).

Very useful for me since I'm not au fait with non-espresso methods. Have not been satisfied with my non-espresso brews recently.

They even suggested using a paper towel technique to move fines and using a sieve to remove boulders from the grounds before brewing. 400 micron is the idea. Very tempted to try but looks super leh cheh and messy!

I bought these 2 beans quite some time back. The perfero one is interesting because its a 30% robusta blend. Both are very tasty. Traditional italian style espresso so lots of cocoa. THe perfero one produces beautiful crema. I think maybe because of the robusta? Not bitter and harsh too. Very smooth and creamy.

yes from coffee in a place and I got it within 5-7 days if i remember correctly.
They are bringing in tim wendelboe's recently.

I didn't get a large cone maybe because I used a very low temp. But i get the nice tiger striping that looks great with flash photography. The body for the perfero is incredible. Maybe because i made a ristretto or there was more oil in the coffee but i think the stable crema helped to maintain a thick, smooth and syrupy mouthfeel to the drink. almost no acidity. nice to go back to old skool espresso once in a while.

I did get large cones in the past when using the silvia and i didn't temp surf. It was a mix of super heated water, espresso and crema i guess that makes the large cone lol.

Is it ok to leave an espresso machine on all the time?

Also, when do you have to grind instant rice in a grinder? I read it somewhere but forgot what was it for :s22:

For leaving the machine on i suppose is ok if its semi-commercial class at least. Some claim that this reduces the thermal expansion and contraction of the parts and prevents wear and tear but then again the machine is subjected to high heat for long periods so other parts like electronics may fail too like this.

Instant rice is to clean and season a grinder. The rice and absorbs the oils on the burrs, sweeper vanes but I understand some manufacturers do not recommend this. Rice is really hard. After using rice you still have to use quite a bit of beans to flush out the rice grains. I think its better to just use a recommended product like caffeto or grindz or just clean manually.

DO NOT USE RICE FOR SUPER AUTOS.

HG one claims that the grinder needs to go thru some grinding before the grind setting stabilised. Rice was one of the recommendations. But i used cheap coffee instead to season.

I see, thanks!
How does one adjust the grind size of grinders? I just bought a macap m4 and it's the first time Im doing this making coffee from beans kinda thing. You have to turn the machine on with beans inside the hopper while adjusting the grind size? So beans will be wasted? Or do u only need to on it but not have any beans in the hopper? I only read that u can't adjust grind size with the machine off as it'll damae the grinder, am I right?

It arrived!

Couldn't wait till the morning to try it, so decided on an evening latte.

First shot of Red Brick:

The latte. Excuse my poor attempt at latte art. :o

It was tasty but the coffee taste was slightly weaker than what I am used to (used the usual dose/routine I usually use with nylon's blends to establish the baseline). I'll have to play around with the dose and grind over the next few days.

Thanks again for the recommendations/tips (nod3, Lazy_tiger, chikyblink). Much appreciated.

Lazy Tiger was right about the turning on/off causing wear/tear due to pressure changes so most commercial machines have Power Save modes where the boilers are still on but the set points are lower so they don't completely depressurise.

Some arguments here:

Leave your La Marzocco GS/3 on - Home-Barista.com

There was a graph somewhere where a person compared power usage on/off vs. leaving it on. Can't find it.

Cup looks rather big! 10oz/280ml? Maybe try a smaller cup so the milk doesn't dilute the coffee that much. Art is overated, your milk looks good though! Nice and shiny.
