Any recommendation for local roasters? Looking for darker blend/singles with more chocolaty flavour. Tried Lam Yeo's Brazillian bourban and its pretty good!

Got some Ethiopian Amaro Gayo from another roaster to try out, not my type of beans...
Look for Guatamala blends.

I am keen on the lunar version for my espresso machine but since I have the perl already it is hard to get approval from my finance minister. well unless I can sell this... XD

I am not used to doing reviews but can provide the following information on this expensive toy:

1. it has a great response time, you do not see any lag when pouring or weighing. the response time is on par with mettler Toledo scales I used during work

2. its virtually spill prove but not entirely, USB connector at the rear of the unit for charging is an entry point for water to destroy the toy.

3. there are a few display modes, including a timer / weight display function which allows you to use and time your pour without going through your phone or tablet's app. useful standalone feature during morning rush.

4. the battery lasts forever. been using since fully charging it, currently about 3 months and still no sign of asking me to charge. you can see battery % in the app when connected to the scale.

5. the perl version is too big to fit under my espresso machine, - that's where the lunar comes in.

its just fun to use :) btw I use it for weighing cooking or baking ingredients too.

Sounds like a solid product. I have gone thru 4 scales. Currently using aws cheap scale but there seems to be some "drifting" of the displayed weight. Not sure why it happens.

Do u use the connectivity with the iPhone app?

Does anyone know where to get some good green beans locally at reasonable price?
Through my research, I can find blendnew and freshcafe but blendnew's beans seem too expensive, not much difference from buying roastee. Freshcafe doesnt list their price on the website so I dont know.
Im going to try the popcorn popper route, since it doesnt require some serious investment so I can test if home roasting is my thing.
I know some bros on here have been doing home roasting for a long time so much appreciated if someone can share some experience :D

I did. not always though.

you will get lazy over time using this lol..

no drifting with my unit.
responsiveness could b adjusted if using on an unstable platform table.

Guys, when I'm using the bottomless portafilter, my extraction seems fine (the color and flow and timing etc is fine) and all but then I have "dead spots" in the middle where espresso is not flowing out from the portafilter. Any idea what I can do to reduce these dead spots?

Is your basket clean? - see through against light to check for stuck fines
Is your group head and shower screen clean? When did you last back flush with detergent?
I assume grind n tamp is good since flow n timing is good

Nice toy bro Rprime :), esprsso on the go.

Re green beans, I have contacted fresh cafe and they do stock a lot of green, some are not even listed on their website tionghoesc.
They have better price if you buy 3kg and above, so I bought 3kg of Brazil, Guatemala and Indo Sumatra. Price is quite reasonable I think.
I got an used popcorn popper off carousell and did some simple mod to it (remove the thermostat, separate the fan and heater power) and roasted a few batches. I will post some pics later tonight.

i think coffee roasting is not worth the time and money.

Nowadays you see a lot of new roasters.
Already have so many choices.

It's often a hobby, for me roaster beans cost usd$12-20 per 12oz, if I blend my own and get my local market to roast for me in their big machine. it cost usd$9-15 per 16oz. It's nice they have a range of 15-20 kinda of green beans to choose from.

Roasting is a great way to learn more about coffee beans but I agree that it will cost a lot of time and money, probably more than you save buying from roasters(at least in the short run). For me, I'm too lazy to learn about roasting for now haha.

Why buy aeropress from grouphunt? So many people selling on carousell whom I'm sure can lower price with a little bargaining.

agreed, had one and it brews good long black style coffee real quick, bit dirtier than espresso machine long black though.
prefer pour over for the clear cup if drinking black.

espresso is another story lol

then again, the handpresso yield coffee somewhere between the strength of moka pot and espresso. imo.

Does anyone know where can I purchase some silicone lube Dow Corning 111 for my Bezzera Strega piston?

Just a note for all new Bezzera Strega users, if don't want to open up the piston chamber, at least pull out the shower screen and gasket and clear the gunk of grease that they use, there will be ALOT of residue that flow down from the spring/piston down to the shower screen. Thats why initially the water will smell funky.

I thought pulling the shower screen down to clean is a standard process for all commercial or semi commercial machines.
Surprisingly, mine was quite clean when i pulled it down last week, i haven't done so for the last 4 weeks. No gunk of grease.

I use quite a lot on experimenting different techniques recently.
