I would get the niche it really designed as a single dosing home grinder from ground up.. I think AliExpress ships it internationally

Thanks for pointing me there! Got one!

Not that new carouseller, it's someone else offering used commercial machines.
But yes, those wooden parts are equally poisonous..

I've observed not-full hopper affecting bean consistency, need to try it out on my Eureka zenith... but yet I'm still suffering alignment issue when I swap out the burr to SSPs..

Its more complicated that purely aligment issues. Swapping out to SSPs burrs will actually exacerbate the situation.

Would hesitate to recommend the Ceado E37S style of grinders. These grinders are mainly best when the hopper is full. These grinders are designed for cafe volumes, modded to do single dosing.

When the hopper is not full with out back pressure from the beans, the grinder typically will have issues grinding fine enough for espresso especially for lighter roast. Conicals are usually more forgiving in this aspect.

hm.. i think popcorning actually causes the grinds to be finer....no back pressure to push out the grinds so the grounds gets tossed up and broken out more before finally exiting. Would be good if socratic coffee can do some test.

Anyway popcorning only affects the last few grams of beans that gets tossed around because there is no back pressure left.

DOn't think there will be problems grinding fine enough. Just adjust it finer. Pretty sure the ceado is able to grind fine enough to choke any machine.

The EK43 is way too big to put at home. Spoils my home aesthetics, haha.

I'll dig into the Niche further.

All this swapping burrs and alignment and meddling around with stuff is really not for me. I'm mechanically spastic... I admire people who can.

The EK has be modded to work well for espresso. Also out of the box it suffers from alignment issues. There is alot of discussion on this issue.

If you are into the unimodal idea, the best out there is the probably Peak. but its not single dose....and its very expensive

The EG1 with SSP is claimed to be one of the best too for unimodal pourover but I have not seen any data to back it up. For Espresso its on par with the monoliths.

I bought the SSP for my EG-1 but i just stick to their normal core burrs since its easier to dial in for espresso and good enough for pourover for me.

Changing the burrs on the EG-1 is not a 30 sec job as I had hoped!

Anyway i think once you go the single dose path you won't regret getting any of the excellent single dose options avaiable since your pet peeve now is smacking the K3.

Oh also consider a helor with a electric drill. This can also single dose and you don't have to manual grind.

I did this for my Feldgrind and a bosch drill before I got the EG-1. At high Speed the grinds had very little fines. I don't see the mud that you find on top of the filter cone at the end of pourover brewing.

Initially there's one corner (1 out of 3 screws side) grinding the upper burr much earlier. Used alluminium foil to create shims, did made some improvement. May need to further add shims to create better balance. :s22:

Not sure anywhere to get an alignment tool for mass market...

Has anyone tried the illy 7.1 offered by SPH?
What kind of capsules does it use, are they affordable and how's the maintenance for such a machine?

This is a better motorized kit to upgrade the HG one. But i feel it’s only worth it if you already have a HG one.

Only worth if u really want to do it, at usd$600! That’s 60% the price of a HG-1.
He state motor is usd$130 iirc, profits is like 50% min

They have their own illy capsules. I have tried in a hotel before and tastes about the same as nespresso.

Ordered 2 Niche Zero grinders, one black one white, from 2 different vendors, Aliexpress and Urban Coffee Roaster (HK).

Although I ordered from Urban later, it arrived first. The white one seems to not have left China yet.

Anyway, the unboxing:

Well-wrapped

Am thinking of this too to replace my bezzera. HK is cheaper?

Niche doesn’t ship to SG directly, so we have to buy it from this region. The 2 I’ve dug up is aliexpress and the HK people.

So to answer your question, yes, HK is the cheaper of the 2. I bought one from each. The HK one is slightly cheaper. Around $50. But what’s more important is they are much faster than the alipexpress one.

The issue now is, you gotta wait for their next stock replenishment. Both black and white are out of stock now from the HK supplier.
