Used the Niche Zero for the first time today for a Chemex brew.

First brew, grind size slightly too fine, but still entirely drinkable. I'll fine tune tomorrow.

The thing is very easy to use. Simplifies my workflow, and makes much much less mess. Very quiet too.

This is how I dialled it in.

1) Calibrate the machine, although it's already calibrated from the factory. Kiasu.

2) Put in 3g, got 2.9g out. Impressed!

3) Way too fine at the middle of "filter/drip" mark, so I turned it quite a bit until it reach the end of the "coarse" scale.

4) Put in 3g, and got 3g out. Woohoo.

5) Still too fine. Now I understand why people say the scale doesn't go broad enough.

6) 2 more tries and I also adjusted the movable ring to move the scale back into the readable range.

7) Finally got the grind size to about where I wanted visually and put in 42g. This is how 42g looks like in the chamber:

Overall, the grinds are much more uniform than my old pour over grinder. Although my first brew's grind was too fine still, it wasn't bad tasting. Slightly on earthy side (I drink a naturally processed, lightly roasted Gelena Abaya), but still very pleasant. Nothing like what it would have been given the same mistake with my old grinder.

I'm happy.

Now waiting for the other one to arrive so I can try it out with my espresso machine. It's already in SG!

Yes...the workflow itself is a massive improvement from more traditional grinders trying to single dose. The price maybe high but seriously there is no product in this niche price range which can outdo this grinder. You could actually use it for espresso.. the dial adjustment is very easy to turn and switching back and forth the grind setting stays very stable.

Yes, I've read it is very easy and consistent.

Anyway, I've got another one coming in a few days for espresso. Having 2 grinders is kinda important for me.

I'll be patient...

You have a Nice setup.. So far using eureka atom with la pavoni europiccola is quite good.. I still like the idea of baratza weight dosing.. But the quality is...

You can't buy directly from Indiegogo. They will not ship to SG. They have an asian distributor.

You can buy from Aliexpress or Urban Coffee Roaster (HK), and they will ship it to you. Will not be Indiegogo price. It's + or - $1k shipped to you.

Found out a friend hasn't been making pour overs for months cos his pour over kettle died, and he's financially strapped now. Decided to give him my 6 month old Bonavita and get myself a Stagg EKG.

Went to pick it up today:

Everything is great except one thing, cable management:

I guess you can't win them all... At some point, I'd probably get so irritated that I'd cut the cable to the exact length.

Anyone frequently buy beans from Lam Yeo? I realised their price is almost 50% of the other roasters. I usually buy Sumatra mandheling at $9.50 per 250g whereas other places selling like $17. I wonder what’s the difference? Anyone knows?

I do get from Lam Yeo, but never had a $9.50 packet? Now trying from Tiong Hoe, will see if I'll take their subscription, making it around $13 a pack of 250gm.

The sumatra mandheling bean is $38/kg. I’m considering subscription from other source but the price difference quite a lot... not sure if I’m paying more for better quality?? Anyone knows? I’m quite new to this haha

Anyone ordered from Hook coffee? Price has increased a bit. Not sure if its worth it for lever machines.

I think best is to try from both sources (if its the same origin, each roaster have their own profile) and see which one does best.

I've tried from them but... didn't excite me that much and quickly return to Lam Yeo for cheaper alternatives.

Currently trying Tiong Hoe's Jet Candy espresso blend, pretty good so far and seems I've found a new love.
