Gian to get the kalita wave. I can use this to make my Japanese Iced Coffee and also the drip ( hot ).

1) Kalita Wave + Filter
2) A Goose Neck Kettle ( use heat rather than electricity )
3) Hario Slim ( Good Enough ? )
I try not to get another coarse grinder

Last week hoot

Didn't manage to get to Intelligentsia in NYC, only manage Blue Bottle at Rocketfellar. Luckily, I was only able to taste Intelligentsia in one random cafe that uses their coffee.

Wondering if it's worthwhile to import from the states

highlander cheap and average I guess. For that type of price and if you're using it to make cafe latte, nothing to complain since the milk will mask all over roasting, imho.

highlander seems to use a slightly darker roast compared to some other 3rd wave.

Received this today. Bought thru Coffee in a Place. Good service and prompt replies to queries.

Redbird seems to be a more heavily roasted espresso than the usual usual stuff. A bit of surface oil is visible. Northern Italian roast according to the packet. I suppose I would sort the recent coffees I have tried so far from light to dark roasted as follows:

Light
Square Mile Red Brick
Square Mile Agua Regada
Nylon 4 chairs
Toby's Estate Rodyk Bleng
Pacamara Roadster
Redbird Espresso
Dark

I used a low temperature for this one but I grinded a bit to fine and the flow was too slow for this one as u can see.

The finish was a bit rough due to the slow shot but overall it seems to have very little acidity with more emphasis on caramelly and chocolaty notes. The mouthfeel is very thick and rich.

its dated "5.8" so i supposed roasted on 8th may.

I don't drink a lot. Usually just 3 shots worth everyday. And I'm the only one drinking in my house.
It's just that I've tasted coffee made with fresh beans (2 days old) and finishing the pack on the 10th day. That last few days left me wondering where all the delicious flavors had gone to...

assume 1 shot = 20g,
450g/20 = 22 shots
round down 20shots
20/3 = 7 days ( yeah more or less there )

*3 shots a day is a lot for chikyblink

For me usually morning once and night once ( if I reach home early )

I think not many ppl play with pourovers here...
And yes, your hario slim is good for pourovers don't worry.

Not many have the kalita wave because the hario v60 is more popular and widely available. Plastic version is cheaper too. I have the hario mini and honestly its grind is just barely there. There is too much variation in the particle size and alot of fines are produced especially for light roasted coffees. Examine the way the burrs mount and the play between the burrs and u will see what i mean. If u do not need the portability i would suggest getting a better grinder or even and electric one.


I don't have experience with the other more atlas hand grinders such as the oe lido, knockhaus or rosco but they seems to play greater emphasis on the stability of the burr mount which I think is very important for a good grind.

Also u do not really need a goose neck kettle. I have the hario bueno kettle and I feel i can pour better from an old small french press. The speed at which the goose need pours water out is still quite fast and hard to control!

my 1 shot only 7 grams get a nice flow and crema already, unless i'm using the bottomless portafilter.

Using single basket with Brewtus.
Double i can do with 13 grams.

I will only use double only for cappuccinos or two cups.

i thought double is 14-18g. of course some ppl use more uo to 22g,
14gm is 32 double shots , 4.57 drinks a day
18g is 25 shots or 3.57 drinks a day.

every morning I make 3 double shots (16g) and maybe at nite 1 shot either double or single.

early morning you hoot 3 x double shots liao!

i only do the most 2 x double shots in the morning. maybe 1 more double shots in the afternoon.
