actually my delonghi was purchased in uk also as a display set. still lasting and it cost me ard 100-150sgd i think.

you a bit suay, i purchased v6 mattress dyson and some other units from amazon still working good. but the mobile sets i purchased from taobao always have problems, so i ended up signing telco with samsung.

i think the set that i'm able to bring back from milan would be the gaggia series but i don't wanna bring back something that is not worth, esp if it belongs to one that is similar to my delonghi.

i think if i were to consider a bz10, i might as well take a strega

Haven't spoilt don't mean won't spoilt. :o

I've the bz13 in office and strega at home. The strega is like having an inbuilt equalizer and amplifier. Tame down all the extreme sour or bitter notes and bring out all the subtle flowery and sweet notes. Make my coffee more interesting. Bz is good but needs a little more tinkering on the grind settings to get right.

if you can afford it, go for the Strega.

I'm using those cartridges that attach to the inlet hose of the machine

Bezzera-Water-Softener.jpg

Need to regenerate with brine every 3 months.

RO water should be the cleanest.

this thing needs to also activate with brine during the first use. Looking for a simpler solution :o

Hmm....best to get your machine locally, if you want to upgrade to a semi-pro machine. Parts (valves, gaskets, lamps) will need to be replaced from time to time depending on your usage rate. Unless you can do it yourself, best to get a machine with local support.

Need grinder too.

Just enjoy the coffee culture in Milan! Not all the shops sell specialty coffee, google some reviews first.

From time to time display sets emerge in sg too.

Get a machine with 58mm sized portafilter. Will allow you to use vst or ims baskets when you want to experiment with modern roast styles.

Just wanted to share an interesting experience lately. Was at compound coffee co over the weekend and they were using the ek43 for all their shots which I guess was due to the small crowd giving them the luxury of single dosing. And for me first time trying a ek43 espresso shot pulled from the slayer was mind blowing. Had the public access beans, the flavours and layers were so well separated. Could taste all the flavours as described so distinctively..

Those who are curious may want to head up to their cafe over the weekends as I believe they will use their mythos on usual days when the volume is high.

The best coffee I had in Germany was using an old school doser grinder and old school lever machine only. Think both are older than me, 1/4 the cost of slayer and ek43. :o

Compound coffee is really cutting edge. They generously share their experiment findings on their website.

I was damn tempted to get the ek43 but the size is crazy for home. Looks like a meat grinder. Lead time to get one was also too long.

Was the espresso at compound coffee thin or pulled as a lungo? Matt perger recipes usually recommends pulling lungo style when using the ek43 to get the best results. I'd love to try out an EK43 but the though of losing body in an espresso gave me 2nd thoughts.

I think their extraction was about 1:2.5, i spoke to them briefly but cannot remember the details. Peeking behind the counter, they were using the Slayer style preinfusion, which increase their extraction time beyond 30 sec if i am not wrong.

Yeah you lose the mouthfeel, but you gain back in flavors which i would gladly exchange for. The acidity was very crisp, flavors were very "3D" haha..

TBH i have tried some of the more popular places for lightly roasted beans like Nylon and Jewel but their espresso comes across to tart for my liking.. But CCC seems to do it very well, i am not sure if its their beans / machine / skills though. Just drop by and try it if you have the time over the weekends, their barista is very friendly and willing to share.

I bought back a pack of their public access beans which i had at their cafe, pulled a few shots using my bb005 and mazzer mini (jolly burrs) on my rocket, managed to get the flavours but the 3d popping effect is not there. its like the flavours are there but not well seperated. Strangely the BB005 (cornical) fared much better den the mazzer, in terms of flavours separation, which i guess plays into the whole conical vs flat debate.

Replacing broken Ulka pump

So about a few months ago I noticed something weird about my machine while rinsing with a blind filter. Sometimes it'll go up to full 9bars and then stopped working suddenly. It just went silent. But most of the time it works just fine so I didn't pay much attention to it. Slowly the sudden "stop" gets more and more frequent until I realised my Ulka pump was breaking down. I searched around online for a new one and ordered it immediately.

Just under $50sgd shipped from bellabarista. I find the packaging a little too overkill. They could've used a smaller box.

Opened up my machine and began dismantling my old pump. Not a lot of space to work with. Patience and finesse are needed. Also, my machine's sharp edges are not helping.

After much fiddling, I managed to fix in the new pump and all's working well again! Not bad for a $50 self fix that can easily run up to the hundreds if you send it in for repair.

All the mighty experts!

I am currently holding delonghi ec330 using lavazza rossa. I wished to have an upgrade. Would it be better if i would purchase a gaggia naviglio/brera or i should purchase something better like bezzera strega?

The problem with strega is i would need multiple stuffs such as a grinder, tamper, thermometer or many more which i have no idea as i'm not in that stage yet.

I am not quite sure about the gaggia naviglio/brera would be able to upgrade to a portafilter also for better coffee result?

If i buy a machine and grinder, it would set me back at abt 4-5k i believe but a naviglio/brera would prolly just set me back at abt 1k as i'll be in milan in sept, which i would be able to buy a good machine back.

May i know if there is any model to consider for when i am in milan?

Thank you big big

Hello, Gaggia recently came back into Singapore and I happen to know the person. I can probably help you get good prices on their machines!

Read from don't know coffeegeek or HB, that Gaggia is already a goner. Taken over by Saeco then taken over by Phillip. The innovation like stuck in time.

Who still use dual-use single boilers nowadays. :o
