I guess the Smart Grinder Pro doesn't make the cut. Does it need to be stepless? Is the Lelit PL53 better?
hi guys very interesting forum. just curious Brezzera Magica with PID worth buying? I know little to nothing about brewing an espresso but i hope to learn.
i was looking at the bundle from FCC with the BB005 grinder. I think that's ok?
Thanks for reply.
hi thanks for reply. Im looking at the FCC package for Bezzera with BB005 grinder. Otherwise wat grinder do u recommend? i understand wat u meant by hassle to dial in the correct coarse level of the coffee powder. but i guess thats more like just trial and error.I would try to avoid the BB005 grinder, too much retention, hard to dial in, not worth the price.
Bite the bullet and get the Niche as ur first grinder, will save you alot of frustrations. I am not too sure if they currently ship to SG, I believe now they have a SEA distributor, just email them and ask.

thanks for reply. Also i was looking at La Marzoco Linea Mini. Why is it significantly more expensive than Magica? I am seriously considering between these two.Niche zero I think has a one year warranty. But you need to send back. The grinder is very simple design wise, hard to imagine any problems with it. I been using mine daily and throwing it in the bag and bringing around no issues. It's just a motor with an on/off switch.
You should be fine with the magica pid. It's an e61 group head, very tested and proven.
I measure my 3 years old BB005 every morning, I measured 15g in, everytime abt 14.x out.Take a look at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/niche-zero-the-best-conical-burr-coffee-grinder#/ , email them privately for shipping to SG.
A good grinder is more than just making the dial in phase easier.. There is retention issues and single dosing issues to also overcome. The BB005 is retention monster, easily 5 g stuck in the chute, which means alot of beans wastage for each grind adjustment and change of bean type.
For your budget, I think you can streamline to a few models first.thanks for reply. will check them out. how about quamar Q and M series?
also, magica with pid should be ok? any other machines u would recommend? I wanted rocket appartmento but i dont really wanna pay premium for the looks. Im guessing magica with pid has more function and helpful gauges.
hi compuser thanks for your reply. how about La Marzoco Linea Mini vs Magica with PID?For your budget, I think you can streamline to a few models first.
I will pick the most known reliable one.
Grinders do a lot of work and meet a lot of resistance while doing its job. You won't want one that spoilt that easily.
It's something you can't see from just the specs.

How u get 5g?

For grinder i think i will go with Baratza Sette 270. it has low retention too.![]()
If talking about the chute, the one for a mazzer as I assume shouldn't be anything much smaller.
I have this habit of knocking the chute and everything drops out. The thing about this versus my previous 2nd hand mazzer is, at least I can knock this out. Tbh I don't feel any difference irl or experience 5g of retention in every cup as described. I don't dismantle and clean everyday though, infact never once.
I might use two blends of different roast with different shades to identity the significance. But I remember I did once and couldn't find anything conclusive.
I will report back if I have the chance.
hi compuser thanks for your reply. how about La Marzoco Linea Mini vs Magica with PID?
I understand most cafes probably have La Marzocco, it's double boiler which can make espresso and froth milk (Magica can too right). I cant tell whats the difference? I mean if it's really that good in terms of durability and getting most of flavour out of coffee bean, i think it's okay to invest in a good machine. Also i think La Marzoco has pre-infusing which Magica doesnt have (some say pre-infusing is some gimmick). what's ur take please?
If the chute is the concern, there's one screw which you can remove and you can vacuum that out. That I do, sometimes, which is why I knock at the end. Good enough. You should do a clean up once in awhile, the first time i did a clean up and opened the chute for the BB005, i sold it off immediately. The whole exit chute is filled with compacted stale grounds which no way can be knocked away.
The mazzer is slightly easier to mod, you can remove the static screen to have easy access to the chute, the BB is more tricky because if you grind without the chute cap, the grounds will get into the motor.
hi Wook2000. thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely look at Lelit Bianca. Very cool way of manual control profile. I thought only LM has this! very interesting! i was also looking at Rocket Mozzafiato Evoluzione R with PID in matte black. Lelit Bianca is now no. 1 on my consideration list. very good digital display with so many different options. The Sette unfortunately also has retention issues, they get stuck between the burrs and the hopper.
If you are just starting out and have the budget for the LM mini, i would use that budget to get a better built grinder.
Buying the LM mini is like buying a piece of history, the built quality is top notch + design + branding therefore its priced much higher. There is also alot of design difference between the LM and E61 to achieve thermal stability. Both also have preinfusion, but unfortunately both are none adjustable.
If you have the budget for the LM, i would recommend you the Lelit Bianca instead. Dual boiler + more importantly it has flow control which opens up endless shot possibilities.
