hi Wook2000. thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely look at Lelit Bianca. Very cool way of manual control profile. I thought only LM has this! very interesting! i was also looking at Rocket Mozzafiato Evoluzione R with PID in matte black. Lelit Bianca is now no. 1 on my consideration list. very good digital display with so many different options.

I've decided i will go with Eureka Mignon specialita for grinder.

For espresso making, it's all about the grinder. This should be your top priority when purchasing your setup. I see many ppl prioritizing the machine over the grinder when they started out. I made that same mistake b4 myself.

I generally have 2 criteria when purchasing a grinder. Big burrs and low retention. For flats, anything above 70mm. For conical, anything above 60mm.

I'm not saying regular smaller burrs are bad. They're perfectly fine for home espresso. But bigger sized burrs are just much easier to dial in to in my experience.

Small burrs have a much smaller ballpark to hit. The area between a choked shot and a gusher is tighter. Dialing in the right shot is more frustrating and wastes more coffee and time.

And imo, for bigger burrs, the coffee notes are more clearly defined.

All I'm saying is, when you set a budget for an espresso setup, the priority and majority of your budget should go into the grinder.

I've heard advice on prioritising the grinder over the espresso machine and I agree with it too. However, I have a question, if we were to invest a lot on a grinder, ie. a high end grinder, but using a entry level espresso machine (in my case, it is the Rocket Appartamento), is it going to be overkilled and simply just can't get the results of what the high end grinder going to bring to the coffee notes?

The Rocket Appartamento is certainly NOT entry level! I mean a E61 grouphead plus heat exchanger comfortably put it in the middle range level.

Entry level machines to me are the single boiler types like the Delonghis, Gaggia classics and the Rancilio Silvias. And even these are adequate! I'll be totally ok with pairing a top-of-the-line grinder with any of these!

Thanks!! I'm planning for an upgrade of my grinder and because advices have leaned towards getting a very good grinder instead of spending on an expensive espresso machine, therefore I've budgeted for a good grinder this year and for the next few years I do not see myself changing my Appartamento. Thank you for your assurance that I can pair a good grinder to my Appartamento nicely for the next few years at least!

Not denying that Appartamento is not cheap too. But my point was, I've bought Appartamento some years back, and if I'm going to upgrade the machine, for sure it will be one which is more expensive than Appartamento. So if I were to have an upgrade now, I think I should upgrade my grinder instead of my machine.

There is still alot of life left for an e61 .

https://www.wholelattelove.com/products/profitec-e61-flow-control-device

Buy this to upgrade to Slayer style flow control .. it's similiar to the bianca.

wow!! didn't know thing like this exists! certainly lots to play off the e61. From the video, I'm way more interested at this point to get the pressure meter to be attached to my e61 group head as the Appartamento doesn't have the group head pressure meter. Not sure if there is any place locally selling that group head pressure meter that can fit on e61?

A thermometer at the group head would help with you shots tremendously compared to the pressure guage. The pressure guage is a once u set it at certain bar, its not gonna change unless u are going to the flow control route.

A thermometer can track the changing dynamics of flushes, warm up and cool flushes, to give you a better understanding of the group head and when to maximise the shot temp.

Thanx for the info! Just watch the video, how to install both thermometer and flow control. After some googling guess I am not the only one

I’ve indicated interest for HG1 coffee grinder. How long does it take for them to get back to you? Anyone has any experience? I think I’ll face a situation where espresso machine will be here before my grinder.

Thanks. Don’t mind me asking. Is it authentic?

I guess its original, the market for such grinders is really NICHE for people to fake..haha..

WPM and Niche worked very closely , seeing that the seller carries alot of WPM products, i am guessing its legit. Most probably Niche is markets under the WPM brand in Asia/china region as their distributor/manufacturer
