The beauty of the robot or flair is in the simplicity in creating coffee/espresso under hot water pressure of 6-9 bars which is easily verifiable with a gauge provided, its very different from the aeropress whereby its nearly impossible to create at least a 6 bar pressure due to the wider puck and without some form of leverage or breaking the plastic.

Paired with a good grinder to create the right amount of puck resistance for the above machines and you are easily creating espresso shots on par with cafes.

If acquiring a zero or close-to-zero grind retention single dose grinder is your goal, then the Niche Zero is actually the cheapest option for now.

What do u mean expensive for the quality?
For usd$650 (63mm) vs EG-1 usd$3500 (80mm) or HG-1 usd$995 (71mm or 83mm)
I think cheap compared to the above zero retention grinder which has large burr
Sure Baratza Sette 270 just usd$400 but burr is 40mm

If u compare to grinder with retention not fair comparison

I am actually very worried about this project, its a safety disaster waiting to happen. If you look at all the other portable espresso makers, all of the design protects the brew chamber with lots of plastic and provide a very comfortable grip to hold, because when you start pumping the pressure, accidents such as slippage will happen, especially when the grind setting is not right and the user tries to force his way thru, the whole machine will slip under the hands of the user, the glass may break throwing shards of glass into the palm and also not forgetting hot water.

An example at the 4.30 min mark

Didn’t pay attention since I am not in the market for it.
I still count on my moka pot

For home use, single dosing is the only way to minimise workflow, filling up a hopper of beans in our tropical climate will ensure the grind settings changing drastically day by day, which means you end up purging, adjusting grind settings, testing and purging somemore just to make a cup of coffee.

If you are keen on China made machines i am currently using a Milesto EM-30 Double boiler machine in the office, for its price its quite hard to beat. Rotary pump, PID control, etc. PM if you are keen.

Noted and thanks. BTW a question - does anyone know where to get Urnex products in Singapore? Amazon US sells cheap but they don't ship to SG. The only alternative I see is Cafetto but more expensive.

Wouldn't try that on a bodum glass.

Hello, looking to buy another manual grinder for Espresso again. Will a 1Z JE or K Pro be a good choice or are there new/better options for great grind quality?

Anyone knows of any local roasters for 100g/week subscription? Reason is because of low consumption, but still really prefer freshly roasted beans. Ideally dark roasts for espresso...

Hi there, I am a home roaster with access to commerical grade roaster that roast quite a variety of beans for different brewing methods;pour overs, espresso etc. Would u like to share what kind of taste you like and see if you are keen to explore (via pm) trying some fresh roast coffee :)

Also this is my second account cos the older one was disabled due to long inactivity and now the new setup requires 2FA verification, oh well:)
Cheers

Any one used your espresso machines and grinders for local Chinese style kopi o losing? How fine do you grind, and do you make a lungo shot, or a long black style?

I would suggest that you not mix grinding angmo and Chinese coffee. The Chinese coffee contains tons of burnt margarine/sugar(?). Running them through your grinder will leave a strong aftertaste, that will affect your subsequent grinds. You'll need to clean the burrs throughly.

Alternative is to buy another grinder. But never tried making espresso shots with Chinese kopi.
