I'm just wondering, why don't local roaster indicate the ratings of their beans? Also, is it safe to assume that ALL beans being sold by specialty shops are all at least 83 points and above?

Hello! Anyone has any recommendations for coffee beans grinder for frenchpress / drip coffee? Prefer an electronic one with settings ◡̈
Didn’t come across foreign roaster indicating that info at all
unlikely......
but to be fair not just local shops, other non-local shops don't always rate.
also rating is may be like wine. there is sure to be some variance in grading between q-graders despite them being trained to be consistent between each other...
nonetheless at least the seller is transparent by stating a rating and generally you are more assured of the quality..
if you can't rely on the grading then you need to reply on your own personal experience or word of mouth from knowledgable peers to find the roasters with the best quality stuff.
usually the more expensive stuff is better. they are more expensive because they are rarer. more interesting varietals, grown and processed in better/stricter conditions, sorted out to get rid of the poor quality beans or insect damaged beans. Some roaster even sort the beans post-roast to get rid of quakers. And you are left with an ever increasingly smaller quantity of the good stuff..
There are some very good roaster in singapore like nylon coffee, compound coffee homeground, strangers reunion etc....
others are not bad roasters, just that they cater to different budgets or are just plain good old daily drivers.
One can't drink 4-5 cups of 90+ coffees everyday unless one owns the farm!
Also drinking a daily driver puts one back into perspective....

very true. the only 90+ beans i bought was from Gardelli's and they were indeed very different. I won't say they're better though. I still remember a La Cristalina I had few months ago and it tasted like a tart juice. I was wondering if I'm underextracting but it was just juicy as hell. Definitely not my cup of tea (or coffee?).
I usually buy a 500g of daily driver coffees for work then rotate 2x250g of bags from either Nylon or Percolate's overseas offerings.
Hi all, fellow espresso drinker here.
Can you all share which are your favourite beans for espresso. The kind that produce a velvety thick espresso with lots of body and smooth mouthfeel? Thanks!
My set-up: Breville Infuser + Sette 30
I'd recommend Ona Coffee' Raspberry Candy blend. Cafebond has them on quick delivery but I'm suspicious of roast dates on beans that are on sale. Either way, give them a go. It is super sweet with winey notes that are further enhanced with milk.
Another one is the Dutch blend from Dutch Colony if you like a bit of fruit in your pulls. Not everyone's favourite but it's my daily go-to espresso.
