Anyone owns a BDB and has leaking group head before? Is the group head collar insert the culprit?

From what i read on the standard service of BDB..
Usually 2 years you need replace all the O-ring..
And for the Group head to leak - maybe O-ring or from the sensor tip ( the white color ceramic insulator)

If you can, open the top off and start the boiler to see where its leaking..
If not, send in for a full service and ask them to replace all the O-ring..

I went once, its at Jln Pemimpin there..
Drop off, took them about 3 days. (But that time it was under waranty)

Mine is parallel unit, I bought from Australia. They don't want to service non local units. Abit GL....

So I had to ownself service and DIY.

I already changed the O ring (biggest and thickest one) at the group head / portafilter that side. I haven't changed the small brown and blue o rings inside the system.

And I am very long overdue for a slayer mod. lol

Yes I know where the place is to repair, I live near there, walkable.

I didn't change the small ones, the big one at the group head I only use a philip screwdriver and changed it, and still leak. Cannot crank up to above 3 bars now. And even if can, it leaks all over the place like a **** star.

Currently only using the steam wand to froth the milk and relying my trusty Bialetti moka pot for coffee the old school style.

Will find a weekend to tear the machine apart and check.

Meanwhile, will purchase the spare parts from AU and ship to SG. Way cheaper,

https://www.ebay.com/itm/156470279309?chn=ps&google_free_listing_action=view_item

From eBay easily close to $80-90.

https://outwestcoffee.com.au/product/breville-collar-inserts/
https://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=64928_68652_102366&products_id=1777114

Less than A$20 from Australia. Ship back at most give you S$30 for a small parcel.

Essentially half the price.

Some ppl use tap water directly, for me as i have a water filter purifier dispenser.
I just use the water from there to my BDB.

Yup, tried zero coffee Brazil sul de minas and Nicaragua (Found on my note which i record of the taste and grind size)

Base on my memories, they are also local roaster, both above which i tried taste note are okay.
Reason i drop them is due to pricing.. I think their 1KG bean is about $50 range..
Where Soji is below $40 i think for 1 KG.

1) so direct from tap is fine? ( no limescale ? )
2) I ordered Soji to try. Also resting of beans of about 5 days after roasting is good practise rite? But if order 2nd pack the rest time would be slightly out. I don't drink fast enough.

I didnt use tap water direct... so i cant comment.. i only know some ppl uses tap water direct..
For me i use water filter purifier dispenser water. so far so good been 2 years no limscale.

i think for optimal flavor.. most would rest for 5-14 days depending if light or dark roast.
Light roast need longer rest time.

Actually the best is after roast 5-14days.. but it can keep longer if stored properly in airtight container etc.
up to 4 weeks bah..
Mine start to lose abit of aroma and complexity if after 2month..

So whenever i purchase, i aga aga count and purchase quantity that could could last me 1.5month.

Singapore water is very soft. Do you have a stainless steel sink? If your sink is wet, and dries naturally, do you see white calcium stains? If not, there it is very soft water.

In Europe the water is very hard, each time I wash my hands at the sink and it dries, I can see patches of white stains, it's very powdery...

I use normal tap water for my BDB.

And beans wise, I have an airtight container but whenever I pour newly opened / roasted beans into it, it continuously gives off gas then the airtight container no longer airtight lol..

But we drink fast (when we want to).

1 day 4 shots, each time 2 shots, 2 cups for 2 pax. 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon.

18g * 4 - 72g. 1 month confirm can finish 1kg

I find all these OEM purifiers very overpriced. PUB water is safe and clean. If anything is dirty, it's the water storage tank / piping.

In any event, water dispenser is good if you want on demand hot / cold water, not so much for purifying the already very clean Singapore potable water.

My BDB recently spoil / leaking, so slowing down consumption. Using a 8 cup moka pot to brew for 2, then use steam wand to froth milk and make 2 cups.

1 month still can finish about 1kg, maybe slightly longer. 1month 1-2weeks max max...

I also normally buy 2kg by 2kg

Ya lor.. all these OEM Purifiers jin expensive.. I saw similar on taobao.. but yet i still choose buy from local distributor..

1 - instant hot and cold water. (Hot is good enough for Tea and cup noodle, Cold = not ice cold but cold enough during the hot day)
2 - i choose buy local and not taobao due to installation and warranty / OOW servicing.
3 - child friendly.

I make hot water with my gooseneck kettle, relatively quick heat up time. Cold water my refrigerator can dispense. Comes with a flask / dispense option, and I have auto ice maker. So no issue with cold water.
