I actually like the Bezzera Strega, it's a spring lever machine.
It goes from low pressure, to high then back low.
Similar to those super exp pressure profiling machines are normally set to.
No need backflushing, very consistent, very hardy since the pump isn't responsible for extraction, and surprisingly easy to use.

The different pressure extracts different profiles from the coffee, so it forms a fuller body with a wider context of aroma from the same coffee.
Even better than my PID double boiler which can only draw with a straight line of pressure and temperature.
I did not get the Strega because i drink mostly with milk so won't benefit much from those features.

My Brewtus has a PID to control the temperature which in turn control the intensity of the coffee in a way like how Nespresso rate its coffee. You know control the bitterness and acidity, etc?

If you are on a tight budget, i think Expobar's Office series or the EB61 are the best bang for bucks, most value for your money. All are heat exchangers.

If you are really damn broke and die die want to have one, maybe get a second hand single boiler so you won't feel the pinch when you upgrade. Or stick to the Nespresso system.

The keyword is you(tortoise) drink with a lot with milk, i think just save up and aim for a heat exchanger straight.
Expobar Office Pulser Espresso Machine - Fine Coffee Company SG / MY
HX with full copper boilers, sitting at almost 20 kg of mostly stainless steel or copper metal for $1398.

Heat exchangers can heat and froth at the same time.
Not only that, it can create quality froth easily.

I was at my uncle's place playing with his don't know what machine which uses a hybrid of boiler with thermobloc for frothing, the frothing is horrible.
Never got it right. Even his experienced hands, can't do ****.
Ya, maybe someone can tell you you can finally perfect it one day, but it's going to take you hella of patience and milk to get it.

After i got my brewtus, he admits that the first few attempts i made as a newbie, makes cups better than him, my uncle, who spent 3 years struggling and still figuring what's wrong.

To be honest, for that $500 budget, is really not easy to get a decent enough set up. I was like you a few months ago, trying to upgrade from my Jura with the least money. Maybe you can go for a hand grinder, which cut the cost, but it's gonna to add up a lot of prep time.

I'm not sure about you, my morning time is precious. Can't afford too much time making.

Gd luck and hope you enjoy making coffee.

well lots of starbucks drinkers drink with lots of milk.. LOL
who really makes Caffé Latte to be 1 part espresso and 3 part milk in these places. American version is like 1 double shot with however much milk to fill the 12oz or 20oz cup!

load of tortoises in the world.. :D thanks to these ppl starbucks, Coffee bean etc are making good money. can call these ppl out when U walk by these joints. :s13:

some ppl like yourself has high standards needs WBC winner to make your drinks if u are paying. others just happy with their starbucks drinks.

ppl like U can easily justify spending ~2k on setup or even ~2k on a grinder, but there are ppl out there will think U nuts. my family and relatives wonder why I need to blow so much money on my Salvatore. I understand where they coming from, its like I don't get why ppl can blow $1-2K on shoes or $10-20K on bags. To these ppl.. my pals call then snoobs.

I would email support@seattlecoffeegear.com to ask them how they compare since they carry both products. after watching the videos the ec310 has a frother which comes off! that is a sign of danger for me. if not clean well that thing may fly out creating a mess.

I got my stuff here.

https://www.espressocoffeeshop.com/

As always, warranty might be an issue and using the machine without guidance would not be easy.
When I use my Rancilio, the learning curve is steep luckily I have a friend that guides me through it in theory and the rest own reading.

Expobars are mostly heat exchangers or double boilers.
Bezzera BZ09 is a single boiler.
I think you should compare with Bezzera BZ10 instead, also a heat exchanger.

What's the difference between single boilers and heat exchangers?
As making steam for milk frothing will require the water in the boiler to be at above boiling point. And brewing coffee needs a lower tempeature.

If you have a single boiler, you'll have to heat your machine to serve one purpose then wait a while for the machine to reach the other temp before you can do another task. So you will have to switch mode in your machine and wait for the boiler to stabilise between different temperature

Heat exchangers no need to wait, they can do both tasks together with a special boiler.

Since you are drinking mainly with milk, get a heat exchanger because it can froth and brew at the same time. Really a lot a lot easier.
Compare Bezzera BZ10 with Expobar say EB61, BZ10 is faster in starting up and smaller.

If you are mainly a coffee black drinker and requires a white recipe only occassionally, BZ09 is good enough. It's using copper boilers which are the most conductive and the boiler is smaller, so it should start really quick.
But then, for the price of Bezzera's BZ09, you can almost buy the Expobar's Pulser which is a heat exchanger.

I think you should go to the deparmental stores and feel it first.

The Delonghi and Krups models are normally crap seriously.
Gives me the impression they are novelty toys.

If you are on a really tight budget, why not consider a good French press and grinder instead. Together with a kettle that can do temperature control, you can actually make good quality coffee, not espresso with it.

Unless you are really into espresso, lattes and cappuccinos.
But then, with a tight budget, it's really hard to make a proper latte/caps with weak machines.
Minimum is at least a single boiler with option for real steaming power imo.

My point is, with a tight budget, it's better to make a good coffee than make a bad latte.
One day when you can finally buy a proper espresso machine, you have the best of both worlds, being able to make good coffee at the same time good lattes/cappuccino/espressos. That's a better route of 'upgrade' in my opinion.

don't you extract the beans, then froth the milk? and doing both at the same time will save you at most a few minutes?

forgive me if I'm ignorant lol
