GPU for 27" 2560x1440 resolution

Hi guys, been some time since I last keep in touch with PC stuff. Need some advice.
Currently using 23.6" LCD monitor with tn panel. Was aiming to upgrade my monitor to dell U2713HM, 27" with IPS running at native 2560x1440 resolution.

My setup is at my profile, or rather I'm using fsp 550w power supply now.
Currently using Sapphire Radeon HD7850 2GB.
My question is, do I need to change GPU for my new monitor to run games smoothly?
Not into crysis 3, usually on dota 2, dragon prophet,some other new mmo and movies.

If really need to change GPU, which one is most bang for bucks now?
Was looking at the new GTX 770 but seems quite pricey.. and dunno my psu can tahan anot Haha.

Any suggestions?

high resolution need good gpu, if not totally useless at all. if i'm you i will go for the gtx 780.

If u want to run at native res and high quality, u need a really powerful gpu. Maybe 7970 and above.

Else you might want to consider running at lower res or quality

Was looking at palit gtx 770 around $6xx..
But I read reviews 780 slightly below Titan only. I was thinking add another $300 for 780 and dunno whether the graphic card can last for another 2 years and bring over to next rig haha.

A graphic card like GTX670/GTX660 is more than enough to handle the games you mentioned. In fact, i believe your HD7850 is more than capable of running at the native res. You don't even need to spend on a new card like GTX770.

I am using a GTX670 on my 2713HM and running starcraft 2 at ultra settings on native res too.

Get the LCD first and run with your HD7850. If it can't satisfies you then think about changing.

Agree with Rag.. a 770 should be more than enough juice. was using a 680 previously as well with this monitor and work very nicely.

have been using 680gtx well enough, before this was the gtx 580 SLI.

680gtx runs much cooler and gets the job done. i never benched it but from the games i play - civ 5, far cry, crysis, x com, call of duty etc - never had a hiccup on either on all settings on "very high"

perhaps you might also ask yourself why you're upgrading to 27".

for me its for a more immersive experience, and when I am in the game - I don't think I see the difference between very and ultra high settings, and all kinds of crazy smoke effects.

its fun too to pixel peel and look at all those shadows and compare, but honestly don't think you need a 27" monitor to do that.

If you are going for 27' go for Samsung monitors. Graphic are actually 670GTX more than enough

there is a significant visual difference between upgrading from

24" 1920 by 1080

to

1. 27" 1920 by 1080
2. 27" 2560 by 1440

Yup I am upgrading from 24" 1920x1080 to 27" 2560x1440 for the experience.

I don't play games like crysis 3 or batman etc. So I will be temporarily using my HD7850 first and see how.

Was looking at 7 series GTX 770 or 780 to hope that it can last long, even shift it onto my next rig in 2-3 years time.
