i saw that feature sometimes
Grab only have auto topup feature to topup a pre-specified fixed amount when fall below a threshold value. Topup is done before the purchase. Not the same as what is mentioned here.

if your wallet amount below purchase amount, it will prompt to ask for topup

Hi anyone facing issue on refunding from merchant to grabpay card ?

few months ago cancelled a transaction from Lazada because set the wrong address, and the amount wasn’t refunded back. It’s about $75++, send email to grabpay team and all, they chase with Mastercard, and now going end April, my refund $$ is still lost in the air 😭

then few days ago I went jb to refuel, use the card to activate the pump, it will hold 200rm (about $65) and I pump only 90rm, by logic speaking they suppose to refund me 110rm but end up I only saw one transaction of deducting the 200 RM.

So frustrating this issue on refunding 🤦‍♂️ Anyone face same issue ?

the thing you need to understand is that grab card is a DEBIT card not a CREDIT card.
therefore, there is no such thing as place on "hold' like for CC.
once deducted means its out from your acct, gone, its not "pending" like CC then later vendor has chance to update with actual value.
So if there is refund/offset, its up to the vendor to issue another transaction to rebate. If vendor doesn't action another transaction, then you pay the full amt.

For overseas expenses, I typically recommend CREDIT card or Cash
- Credit cards can easily dispute / waive / cancel charges
- Credit cards does not impact the real world liquidity immediately
- Credit card can get temp limit increase for emergencies
- Credit card gets some perks and they goes towards offsetting the transaction fees
- Credit card gives a clear audit trail (compared to cash)

I avoid DEBIT / pre-paid cards when overseas because
- Funds in the bank gets deducted immediately
- A breech could mean all the "real" funds in that account / card is lost
- Not held hostage by the processes of the merchant

Not saying that all situations are the same and there are certainly use cases where a DEBIT card could be used to limit financial risks but on the whole, most would probably benefit from using a CREDIT when travelling

For local spent, I found refund to GPMC a breeze but my (refund) experience is limited to
- Shopback, Shopee

Refunds also happened ok for
- Parking fees, Credit Card payment checks for bills, account registrations (those $3, $1, $0.10 tests)

@tutuboi, did Lazada confirmed (and demonstrated) that the refund was cleared on their end? I have some experiences with ecommerce and all transactions have very clear traceability. At some point, someone should just grant you a credit in lieu or vouchers.

Yesterday I was purchasing old Chang Kee at J8 and I noticed that they had put up a poster that gpmc will not be accepted specifically. Is grab charging them for Txns more than other bank issued cards? Not sure why this move by ock. Will more merchants follow?

I wonder if it is just comms, but the terminal might still accept?

I thought gpmc was like any master card and this card had always been accepted by their terminal when I patronised them. Now that the poster they printed and put up showed gpmc card picture only.

I was at OCK Waterway Point a couple of weeks back, saw Grab sign there but they wouldn't accept as well.
