Planning to go to Guangzhou/Shenzhen/HK 2nd half of July. Read that it is typhoon season, not recommended to go? Or is it like SG just rain for 2 hours, next day sun come out still can go sightseeing in GZ?

Depends on severity. Last moment typhoon may swerve to different path but worse case can be a day or so Flights can be rescheduled or cancelled.

Of course there's a big element of luck or fortune. Just be aware.
Personally I won't till autumn as it gets quite hot.

Went with friends to Shantou, Xiamen and Fuzhou in recent trip. Did a day trip to Jieyang.

Hi hi! Did you start a thread on your trip then? There was a thread on a member's visit to 潮汕 but I have been unable to find the thread. I am also in the midst of planning a trip to 厦门 before travelling to 潮汕。Scoot has a direct flight to 潮汕机场 but the tickets are not available for the period of travel yet..

My plan is therefore to travel to 厦门，spend a night, board the 高铁 to 潮汕, spend 2 nights and then back to 厦门 for 2 nights before flying to Singapore. Any tips or recommendations on the places worth visiting will be very much welcomed and appreciated!

Didn't start and thread. Was a pretty chill trip with friends. Actually trip was via HK. Took private transfer from hkia to Shenzhen. Hsr from there to shantou. After Foochow returned to HK. My friends wanted to visit HK hence the indirect routing.

Anyway for the metro in Xiamen and Foochow, seniors travel free. Show passport to station staff on entrance and exit.

Chaoshan consists of Chaozhou, Jieyang and Shantou so for 2 nights u probably can choose only 1.

Food is to each it's own, but shopping wise definitely tons of things to buy there.
But maybe doesn't suit you, but for sure not nothing nice to shop.

No, metro to futian or Shenzhen, transfer to hsr to Guangzhou

the nearest hsr station from shenzhen airport by metro is 福田站.

1. if you are heading to guangzhou southern areas like 广州南站 :
within the airport, there is 深圳机场站, which is part of the guangdong intercity railway network. different from the hsr network. there are 3 services per day towards the southern outskirts of guangzhou at 番禺站, which is right next to the hsr 广州南站. train is slower but train fare cheaper. free seating.

based on the very high frequencies of hsr trains to 广州南站 from 福田站, you might be able to reach earlier using hsr, you will have to compare.

2. if you are heading to guangzhou central areas like 广州东站, then 福田站 hsr make better sense.
