Hakone Ryokans

Any recommendations from budget to luxury? Some traditional ryokans don't have an English website to book and I am not sure which are the reliable third party ones. Japanican has a few but not a complete list. Any others?

Hi all,

I`m planning to visit Hakone and looking for ryokan with private onsen. Any good recommendation ? Preferably good view and good location if possible. Budget wise, I don't mind paying for good experience.

Thank you all in advance !!

Try Japanican.com for Ryokan.
They have a good selection.

I wouldn't recommend staying at Hakone or kawaguchigo area. Basically the street is deserted by 6pm, nothing to see or walk around. If u are lucky there may be a 24hrs mart around the corner & if there isn't???? If u want to experience private onsen there are plentiful. My wife & i went to one at Yumoto Hakone & we each pay 4000 yen for 3 hours usage. We are allow to use the public bath & at the same time they had 2 private room with onsen. No reservation, first come first serve basics.

err people stay in an onsen ryokan to relax and enjoy the service... relax on tatami, enjoy the view from your room, take a dip in the onsen, wear on the yukata and enjoy a sumptuous dinner served in your room, go for a second dip in the onsen or take a relaxing stroll outside the the ryokan in your yukata, and then lights out...

you want action then of cos you stay in shinjuku...

I personally find it boring. I love soaking in onsen but after few dips the feel would had fulfill mi. I dun sleep early so i guess the best entertainment is to drink till i drop. Unlike going to Taiwan, Wulai. I stayed at their hotsping hotel for a nite. My private room with tub was facing the mountain. Dipping in the hotsping in the month of February, walking along the pedestrian street shopping for their local food & ends it with a few drinks to call it a day. Not necessary going to clubbing.

instead of going to a onsen ryokan, maybe you can consider those larger onsen hotels or resort next time? they usually have more facilities like game rooms, karaoke rooms, manga rooms, and definitely have a few bars and restaurants for you to spend your evening most enjoyably...

there are plenty of such hotels in hakone. i saw many on rakutens that comes with outdoor swimming pools, table tennis rooms and libraries.

i think it is understandable that many of the japanese visitors go to hakone to enjoy the peace and relaxation and they have maintained the environment to be such.

if you wanted some street action, maybe you can consider kinosaki onsen? that is truly a traditional onsen town and there are lots of street shops opening in the evenings in the summer for visitors to walk about in their yukatas.
