Just booked Yamanochaya for November stay once again~

Last time i went during 2014, it was good experience so decide to go again.
Last time surprising i did not try their public onsen! Only use the one in my room.

This time want to try those. They raised their prices slightly with strong yen i paid around $800 for 1 person per night!

In order to secure room need pre payment due to foreigner status.

I suspect most are just heated water. Only very few have authentic private bath. One thing to look out for is check out the website. Some will indicate "not hot spring water". Another thing to look out is check out the photos. Onsen bath water will be cloudy and the surrounding rocks will have lots of whitish residues. Those not using onsen water will be clear water with nice bathtub...

To be sure... just email them and ask... but be prepared to pay at least $500 a night for ryokan with private onsen. The 2 i stayed in Hokkaido cost $800-1000 a night... The one at Lake Shikotsu is the best with private outdoor onsen...

Yes, there are some that do that.

Their room stated the outdoor bath is not onsen water.

Sometimes some places don't have additional supply to pipe all onsen water to all rooms.
Need to be extra careful when booking

Same ryokan got private bath but its not onsen water, its just heated water so you have to keep a lookout on that.

Yamanochaya was super ex during the time that I went so I booked laforet club hakone gora yunosumika. It was above average. But it has no view of mtfuji though. The private onsen room I stayed in, had view of the nearby mountain. Overall a good stay.

Yamanochaya not bad. I going for second time.
Their food in particular normally most ryokan serve but not great food.
Yamanochaya is quite good.

This kind need see luck one. I went kawaguchiko last year, 3 days in total
can't see mount fuji due to cloudy and rainy weather.

Might as well go Hakone! Hakone got better attractions and ryokans compared to Kawaguchiko!

That's why I had a disclaimer saying that it really depends on the weather conditions and your luck.

Hakone isn't cheap too.

Wah. So good. I'm going Japan again this nov see whether got budget for yamanochaya.

I didn't include dinner for my ryokan cause they weren't serving traditional kaiseki but more of a western-jap fusion.

I tried itoh dining by nobu at gora since my ryokan was near. Quite worth it for lunch ard 5k yen. For dinner, I just ate bento we bought from hakone-yumoto.

Yea. The japanican website got state whether the private bath is onsen water or just normal heated water so we just relied on that.

The ryokan I went to had onsen water for their private bath. If i am not wrong, they pipe it directly from owakudani spring. It was nice soaking in the bath after a long day of sightseeing in hakone.

The unique charm of yamanochaya is that it is really traditional type. wooden hosuing
Tatami room, got some wooden floor. Futon also.
In room dining.

Plan to ride the cable car at Gora, passing through Owakudani, pirate ship alighting at motohakone, stroll around, and back again via the same path. Might visit the open air museum along the way. Plan to travel with a few seniors and young kids.

many people do the hakone round course day trip. But the beauty of Hakone is the traditional onsen ryokan.

I think you will still need the Hakone Free Pass so you do not have to shell out cash or credit card at every ticketing counter. Get the pass for everybody at Shinjuku and all your subsequent tickets are taken care of.

Like the above post, I suggest that you indulge in the onsen experience and relax.

Thanks. A rough calculation is about break even with the Free Pass for a day trip.

Very true. I've done the ryokan experience with my family but with seniors involved, it's a bit tricky. They don't like to move around much with their belongings and prefer to stay in a single hotel.

One way is if you are coming back to the same tokyo hotel then u might just leave all your luggages with that hotel first.
Then go light to hakone for 1 night stay
there are so many ryokans which can cater for big family in their suite room.

Not about ryokan but is there anything to do at Komagatake besides the scenery of course? Will there be snow around early Jan?

Those who have travelled before, is there anything interesting to see during the bus ride back from Hakone Machi or Moto Hakone to Hakone Yumoto? If not, I am thinking of going back the same route again with the pirate ship, cable car, and so on.

bros, is it advisable for solo traveler to stay overnight in Hakone?
coz budget for hotel <$200 max per night, ideally $100++, dun mind to stay in capsule hotel if available.

OT: tiagong got haunted hotel... can advise which hotel to avoid?

Try ichinoyu.. 100ish with full board but don't expect too much of cos

I took the bus from Moto-Hakone to Odawara(Got stop at Hakone Yumoto Station also)..Nothing much to see, pretty crowded bus as well..

Very crowded and super winding with all the bends.
