You pray that it's your psu and not Mobo issue. Mobo issue are the worst thing that can happen to you, the most difficult to troubleshoot

take ram out and use eraser to rub the contacts (dont underestimate this step, it save me from a lot of weird PC issues)

psu are very sturdy so i wouldn't assume is psu yet...it is also one of the hardest to troubleshoot

Sounds like power supply issue.

Once change PSU, whole PC can work again.

Try unplugging your RAM and inserting them back again.

Disassemble and remove psu from pc and do paperclip test

PSU is the main component that fails now that hard disks are no longer a thing.
Borrow one to swap out and see if it fixes things.

yes, the mobo will go the bios setup display.

Likely it is the mobo circuit go hay-wire liao. the PSU detected it and auto cut-off to prevent further serious damages to other components (if it's a 80+ psu)

I hav this problem too, but last time i noob even bring the mb down for exchange/repair and they test it on the spot no issue but i bring back fix back still same, tat how i conclude i hav a bad power supply

Test PSU first then slowly check others if failure again.

Some PC the CMOS battery drained already cannot start. I experienced this on a few PCs already. I dunno why also.

i experienced several times. first time didnt know, bought new mb to replace.

now this is the first thing i check.

after putting in the new battery, do a clear cmos operation first.

that's why i always got a spare of all the listed parts above for testing.... except the mobo

Can be motherboard or power supply issue.

Normally when desperate I will clear cmos or change battery. If cannot work, I will reseat the components one by one with the minimum items plugged in, meaning the USB devices disconnected, except mouse n keyboard.

Although its power connector(which is supposed to connect to the motherboard power connector) is different size(it is smaller), but I still can plug it into the motherboard power connector

Turned on the power

Guess what

The processor fan spinned for few seconds then stop

Means this old spare PSU can provide power to the motherboard

Can rule out the PSU hor?

Think the original PSU is not spoilt

What the next step?

Zippy Emacs server PSUs last forever. The machine I built with one is still running after 12 years of almost 24x7 Meanwhile my top of the line Corsairs on my main machine become paperweights every 3-5 years or so.

Your old PSU confirm working? Got multimeter?
Jumper the power on leads (google ATX force power on) and check the voltage rails when powering up a 12v fan.

It is looking less like PSU and more like motherboard now. If you can, remove everything except RAM and CPU. Blow out all the dust and check the capacitor for bloat,

Reseat all the power connectors and RAM and power on. Look for error LEDs or listen for beeps.

Nothing? Try only 1 stick of RAM.
Nothing? Try the other stick of RAM.
Nothing? Try a different RAM slot.

Nothing? Reseat CPU - you will need thermal paste.

Nothing? Borrow one more PSU - old PSUs do fail on the shelf for some reason especially if heavily used. I blame the dust collecting moisture that corrodes internals.

Nothing? WLWLSMDWL. Time for a new motherboard.

If you computer does switch on, then it means that your power cable is loose and you need to find one that can fit snugly into your PSU so that it doesn't droop to one side. Alternatively, you can use cable tie or something to hold it in place/prop it up.

If you want to test PSU, then do the "paper clip test", look at the following link. But that one got to take out the atx 24 pin which can be hard to do. Make sure eco mode is off as well othewise psu fan might not spin.

Previously chiu never change anything right? If PSU is fine then high chance is the motherboard problem.

Sometimes mobo too dusty also can like tat huan. Just take some alcohol and gib chiur mobo a wipe see how.

Paperclip jumper poweron btw is meaningless if you have no multimeter to check the rail voltage.
A 12V PC fan can be a crude substitute if you are familiar with how it normally performs.
