Hello guys,

Thought I should share my findings. Got the TV today. There's some greyish corners on white background and the blacks are surprisingly dark. Image is vibrant, and to my surprise there's one piece on the iQiyi app.

hmm.. can this be considered dirty screen effect? I read some retailers accept exchange if got this 'issue'. Have you tried any movies so far or OLED demo videos? How's the contrast? e.g. black in a dark room (might need to do some calibration first i think) and also blooming?

There need to be a reference to some of this quality defects been made official and across the brands and sellers. Else it’s like an acceptable norm. Just like oh my car has this weird steering sound and the AD will tell you it normal and dismissed it. But once the warranty is up, it like oh your steering rack spoilt .. lol

agreed with this statement. as long as it didn't impact viewing it should be find.

when my U8H is been powered up, there is also uneven brightness with the Hisense wording in the middle. once enter into VIDAA OS, all look good

My loaner set 65 in u8h no such issues . U may want to go look at the showroom after 8 Oct as the set will be return

I sent an email to hisense SG support asking about the differences in specs for SG and US versions, and some of you maybe interested in their reply (they dodged my question on why the big differences in dimming zones though) 2 paragraphs below.

I personally got my own 65U8H today.. and so far I am actually pleased with the picture quality. Blacks look great and it's not as bad as I initially thought it will be. Hopefully this continues as I play with it more in the coming weeks.. *fingers crossed*.

As Hisense has a global reach (Overview - Hisense Singapore) and there are factories all over the world, different factories may change the specifications slightly but most of the picture specifications is usually unchanged. The TVs made for US are usually made in Mexico while the TVs made for Europe, China and Asia are usually made in China. The warranty provided for US models is usually 1-2 years while in Singapore, we provide 3 years warranty.

1) Sg version has IPS panel.

VA panel has better color contrast and black uniformity.

IPS has better color accuracy, faster response rate, better viewing angle in general. Also, IPS screen is more durable.


2) Yes there are different dimming zones

3) Yes the brightness levels is different. Again, most customers already mentioned 1200 nits brightness is more than bright enough even if the TV is used outdoor or when there is sunlight shining on the TV. The TV also has anti-glare and anti-reflection property.

Other than this, we have first hand info on the latest models and will usually release new models earlier than other countries just like what we did with U8H and U7H etc.

Inferior non-US model uses IPS panel (vs superior VA panel), ViDAA OS (vs superior Google TV OS), fewer dimming zones (100+ vs 500+), worse contrast, 300 nits dimmer, no subwoofer (for countries like Singapore), no Dolby Vision gaming, no Apple Airplay, Homekit, Chromecast, use less power and weigh less, but cost more!

Should've advertised local set as U8HSG or U8HQ instead of U8H (meant for US model).

I'd rather buy the TCL C835.

Oh can share how much is it and quality? I assume the UI is the chinese UI? Did you get a screen and install as well?

Including China-Singapore doorstep shipping + GST, SGD$4k nett. UI has multiple languages and English is available. Screen (Vividstorm floor rising) was purchased locally.


$4,000 for a 4k (albeit pixel shifting) capable laser UST with decent colour, contrast and high brightness for daytime viewing, is pretty bang for buck. The only downside is lack of warranty (5 years warranty in Mainland China).

I googled dirty screen effect and all look much worse than my screen. I personally am not bothered by the corners. Since they are not noticeable when watching anything else other than a full screen of white.

The contrast is good. The blacks actually look very black. I have yet to notice any blooming. I'll try out some YouTube tests and report back.

I bought from courts since it was 10% cheaper. (65" U8H @ 1799)

The contrast is good. The blacks actually look very black. I have yet to notice any blooming. I'll try out some YouTube tests and report back.

Update: I ran some tests (by that I mean I played a few YouTube videos. ). The sides where the test object (typically a white cube moving along black background) is moving is more faded.

Did not attach a video since I can't capture what I see. The video I took made the black screen look grey. Whereas from what I see the blacks are really black, but the whites (when moving towards black background) are grey instead.

I actually have no idea.

Here's a sample i found online to illustrate what i mean.

Imagine the white box is moving towards the right, the front portion is just dimmer than the rest.

also, just to be clear the U8H has no issue displaying slow-moving objects (i.e. very clean, no faded areas). So perhaps it's response time...? I have no clue.

Quick google of IPS glow looks like the images i sent a few pages before. Tho mine is on a white screen. So I am also not sure if they are the same issue. @.@

What setting does everyone use? I only turn on smart scene detector setting with max backlight on. The other adaptive contrast, noise reduction, etc i all turn off.

Color tuning is the only difficult thing to do since every video or movie has its own color palette and the clarity and richness you get also sometimes depend on the video quality itself. Running youtube oled tests looks very good though that's what i can say for sg version.

True. I am actually really happy with the buy. I am actually satisfied with the in-built speakers even. But the wife wants to try a soundbar so I still got us a soundbar. Lol!

while I had the U7H (VA) and X90k side by side, I compared the colors. U7H can sometimes look more impressive with over saturated colors. Sony always looks more realistic.

the U8H (IPS) here in Australia only has 180 dimming zones and blooms in big blocks. I think our u9h (IPS) is the closest to the USA u8h (VA).
