Settings/Wireless & networks/mobile network settings/network mode/GSM only..
So long u dun see a G/H sign with up/down arrow next to signal bar then u r safe..

Or another way is by having the Setting widget, choose mobile network widget..off it at all time..

anybody can recommend any 3rd party earphone + mic brands? :)

haha i don't know about earphone/mic brands cos i find the mike thingy very annoying, but i have been using my creative in-ear headphones for 4 years. bought them for $12, and they sound as good as new even now (Y)

creative goods are generally quite hardy :D i recommend them!

a question -

we can use the mobile network widget to turn 3g/gprs on and off,

and personally i use the that widget from the phone but some

people actually recommend to download the APNdroid application.

why is there a need to download the app since both perform the same function?

is there a difference?

what about my question regarding gps? i mean the phone comes with built-in gps, so why doesn't it come with a map or something so that we can use the map with the built-in gps? google map is only useful when using data plan or wi-fi. and its not very accurate most of the time.

grey area is because the map was able to be download.
either ur wifi or ur data isnt on.

its not a must. but it would work better.
there are work arounds for that.
eg. connect via wifi 1st to get the maps d/led. but dun kill the app.
thereby u'll be able to use it "offline" ..

otherwise.. u can find offline maps alternative

from what i know , you can either use your wifi/3g or built in gps for the google map.

i dunno if its necessary for the maps to be updated first though, although i did it thru the market.

its actually more advisable to subscribe to a data plan if you are using a smartphone , if not you are going to incure data charges, unless you are pretty sure that you are not going to use data, like internet, 3g/gprs or other online services.

but then again whats the point of getting a smartphone if you don't intend to make use of the internet or other online services.

the default Map application installed in the HTC Legend will constantly require data download to acquire maps when you use it. It's how Google Map works.

Your GPS receiver only gives you your location(i.e coordinates) so you won't be able to see where you are if you are using the default Map application without data access.

You have to install 3rd party GPS software that comes with map packs in order to see where you are using the built-in GPS receiver..
