Desktop Mode Works with USB Monitors

I am reviewing the ASUS MB16AC portable USB monitor and wondered if the Mate 10 desktop mode works. So I borrowed the phone from colleague and tried.

Guess what? Next time, just bring the phone, USB monitor, and I can do work anywhere. No need to buy another separate laptop. No need Wifi hotspot to laptop. No need charge laptop. I might still need keyboard, but there are plenty of cheap Bluetooth mini keyboards.

Unless I am mistaken, this ASUS USB monitor is probably the only model that can support Mate 10 series, because it runs native USB-C without drivers needed.

Just tried both mate 9 and mate 10 and the screen on mate 9 seems better. Both on max brightness and mate 10 is even set to vivid mode. Mate 10 design somewhat reminds me Samsung note 1 with the slightly more squarish shape.

Bro. the APK for mate 10 demo doesn't set resolution to maximum. When resolution is not at maximum, the brightness of the phone is only half of what it can do, which is even dimmer than Huawei mate 9. Default resolution set is only full HD, but my suggestion is to set at the max resolution or SMART resolution.

and..anyone know whats the function of the so called "AI" do? aside from detecting cat, food and translation (pixel have it too). i mean something concrete for performance, task-related, photo enhancer? :s22::s22:
Because the Kirin 970 heterogenous computing task divider, some non-AI apps which use instructions more suited for the AI chip to execute will also use the AI chip, so it's hard to say which app uses the AI chip a lot. The AI chip can do machine learning inference very fast with minimum power draw, so the result is superior speed and less power consumption.

So far apps which surely use the AI chip a lot (from reports):

Microsoft Translator app (on device translation)
Camera app (AI detected auto preset)
AI call Audio enhancement both mic and speaker voice
AI zoom enhancement
camera image processing

Since it is Tensorflow, Tensorflow Mobile and Kaffe2 compatible most new apps using AI will be accessing the chip transparently, don't care whether the app knows you're using Mate 10 or not. Google Pixel 2 has a much less general AI chip which it is activating soon, hopefully it's also going to herald a new era of apps exploiting AI chip if there's any.

you can buy any USB-C to HDMI adapter hub (included free if you preorder) and it will work with any monitor.

Folks,

Quick question. Any mate 10/Pro to touch around Bugis area? I'm heading there now....

Need a decision between mate 10/Pro and Galaxy Note 8 as far as camera quality is concerned beside the design, UI and hand feel..

I bought myself a Mate 10 yesterday. Because I compared video playback screens, the fatter Mate 10 screen could display significantly more comfortably and bigger. I really don't quite like 18:9 aspect ratio personally.

The phone is freaking fast, the screen is as bright as the Note 8 and Mate 10 Pro at max, and without launching 3 games in a row it won't restart the app with 4gb of RAM. Plus I bought a SanDisk A1 256GB card put inside and now I don't worry too much about speed degradation when installing app data (eg Hearthstone) on SD card.

Front fingerprint sensor is not perfect but I'm getting used to it. It's much better than Apple front sensor experience because of the extreme speed and accuracy of the Huawei's fingerprint sensor and the instant on+unlock behavior.

Battery life is stupendous much better than Mate 9. The firmware which came with the phone is already the debugged version no need any additional firmware for now.

In the beginning, before google play services updated (invisibly) apps seemed to crash but 10 minutes later after play services updated it was great no crashes so far with all the essential apps.

Phone and everything runs fast as ****. Wifi is finally MIMO class and is blazing fast (ipad class of speed). Overall I am very happy with the purchase. I bought brown.

First time, play with Mate 10/Pro.

I'm okay with the front finger sensor. It is very easy to use than back sensor on the Pro.

The brown is nice. The black is too plasticky looks.

16:9 v 18:9, I take Mate 10 for sure coz the display is wider and therefore easy the type and more natural to my eyes when viewing anything. The bezel is so minimal on Mate 10..sex sia...

Note 8, in the other hand, curved sides, curved corners, curved back side and 18:9 and Samsung UI... ...I still don't like it. Yucks..

I should be going for Mate 10 soon... Brown. :)

4GB / 64GB is more than enough for me. Also, I like squarish phone design of Mate 10. I don't like round round and curvy phone design....

Since I'm looking for a good camera phone especially in low / night light. I know Note 8 is still the best but again Mate 10 camera is still quite good already. :)

Also, flat screen on Mate 10 is awesome. Flat screen is still the best. :)

Earpiece sound output.. not sure. I didn't bring my earpiece with me. However, it should be good provided you use a reasonable good earpiece. I'm using LG QuadBeat earpiece which is pretty good on Mi Max at the moment.
