Usually is user problem. If you are careful with your phone, chance of dropping it is very low.

This phone looks to be efficient in everyday use, but terri terrible at games

gamed for 15min on wifi. quite a graphically demanding game. NOVA Legacy, from 435 to 450pm, 3% drop in battery, didn't heat up.

if you bothered looking you would've seen my comment but anyway, it does heat up but not by much. of course power will take a hit. but playing for 15min only a 3% drop is quite decent if you ask me. it's like determining real world usage with benchmarks and numbers. my phone doesnt really get hot while gaming but power drain (clash royale esp on data and btd battles which are optimised quite decently) took quite a huge chunk of battery, I can only imagine how much power the P10 plus would need with its 1440p screen and the kirin 960.

normally 15mins is about the point where inefficient phones start to heat up beyond it can manage, and it starts to throttle etc.

i am surprised the phone didn't heat up though, because it takes twice the power compared to s7. interesting note

not say butter la 1 hour maybe about 15-20% depending on signal strength of LTE. it heats up but not to the point where its unbearable. the screen doesnt heat up, its the back.

It just feels sad that everything about the phone is almost perfect, but some very glaring issues which could be easily solved.

The reason why the Kirin 960 is taking so much power while gaming seems to be how the gpu is programmed to run at max speed all the way, pumping the heat up really quickly at the same time and resulting in a throttle.

bro, i believe that phone manufacturers tested their phone battery life through a series of tests identified by themselves.

each user has different usage patterns, apps installed, and even different background apps running which will affect the battery life.

gaming definitely will use more battery as both the CPU and GPU has to perform more processing to produce all the graphical effects, so definitely will consume more battery then if i were to use the phone for the same amount of time but doing web browsing or whatsapp only, and the apps running background will affect the overall battery usage even during gaming

Since you already got the phone, why not just enjoy it? the phone got a 4000mah battery life for a reason. If you game on a s7e, i am sure the battery will drop faster then a mate 9. the difference is negligible especially when Samsung touchwiz or graceUI is not properly optimised. even their standby time lose to huawei phones.

There is also the huawei super charge which will give u 50% batt in 30 mins. So if you are afraid that you are out of power, just plug in the charger even for 15 mins to top up the juice needed and like some bros mentioned here, we have powerbanks now for a reason. just use it and abuse the phone

let's go back to basics here. the intended usage of smartphones is to expedite communication and maybe enhance on the go productivity (lets you reply emails on a small compact machine, open office documents on the fly). if someone is multimedia centric they would more often than not bring a tablet or power bank around.

the mate 9 is targeted towards more business centric people and the gpu shouldn't be a selling point or even be a deal breaker if you are huawei's target audience. In my humble opinion, the mate 9 is far from perfect, however, in my eyes, it's the perfect phone FOR MY USAGE. and about the gaming experience how about you take the pov of an actual owner and act more like an end user instead. idc about temps neither do I care about the power consumption per frame or whatever - the phone runs games smoothly, lasts long and doesn't get warm. and that's what matters, not the crunched out numbers lmao.

I'm pretty sure, corroborating with other s7e users in this thread, that the overall battery life of the mate 9 is superior as compared to the s7e. and our supercharge is definitely superior than the quick charge on the s7e.

I just don't get why got so many good points of the mate 9 to focus on must purposely pick on its one bad point and act like it's the end of the world. let's just take a step back and appreciate huawei's effort to create such a well rounded device.

tl;dr if the gpu performance is a deal breaker for you, you aren't even the intended audience for this phone.
