Any desks (don't have to be IKEA, already went through their catalogue) about 200x80 dimensions to introduce??
Ikea LINNMON table top 200x60. Chipboard, not solid wood. Cheap solution, not expected to last.

Beware though if you were to get too long a table top you might have stability issue even if solid wood as the legs are too far apart. Get legs that are connected via crossbeams, it prevents the legs from slanting/bending due to the heavy load (large table top).

galant table top is not make of solid wood na.
no need to drill. can screw in anything at long it fix well.

this table the frame is the important thing.

and problem (unconfirmed) the frame getting in the way of the keyboard tray or drawers, cus it seems that these things have tracks or whatever that requires a certain "depth", ahhh.

Mainly for ergonomic reasons la, cus table height is either set for typing or writing, and most set it for writing height. Prolong usage at this height is ergonomically bad :s22: (all the shoulder n backaches and neck aches...)

Its pretty easy if you're DIY-ing it, definitely possible. The frame wont get in the way, in fact you can even mount the tray to the frame.

How would getting a keyboard tray improve ergonomics for long hours though?

I've always hated tables with pull-out trays, it raises the table top height to keep the leg room which results in a very high table height.

It's either tray (3M type, like
ref=sr_1_3
)or drawer.

Just came across this

, 30"! maybe leaning more towards it. Not sure how it will fit in a corner(curved) Galant though.

how it will help..
the correct height for typing is when you relax your arms by your side, elbow 90degrees. if you work long hours on the computer (i spend >12hrs a day avg), gotta watch these stuff. gaowei ya, but it means either the chair needs to be adjusted or the tray/table height needs to be adjusted. before the pain comes

anyway, I went to ikea tampines yesterday, couldn't find the bekant so have no idea how it looks like, but I saw the Linnmon, looks thicker and more solid than the galant?? and cheaper too? :s11:

Pullout trays just nice for low seats and chairs. Use a 2 seater sofa and you can comfortably lounge in front of the table watching movies, dramas and play co-op games too :s13:

The white one has been with me for 10 years

Just to add the white one I have passed to my friend and he continue to use. I feel bad it was already 10 years old. But he was delighted that the table is still as sturdy

Saw the Bekant desks. Very expensive. The table tops are rounded corners, which is good.

160x110 corner costs 399

140x160 costs 249

Saw the Bekant tables too. The corner table the underframe is very near the edge, so cannot put any keyboard tray or drawer there. Fail #1

The ends of the corner table are not straight, so it's not modular like the Galant where you can add additional tables to desired length. Fail #2

couldn't find any more stocks for Galant :(

wtf Ikea?

Just stumbled onto this post... if you guys really want a Galant and do not even mind a second hand one, we have one that I would say is in a good condition. It was my sister's, but she went overseas. If interested, please PM.

If you don't mind getting your hand dirty you can try a DIY ikea kitchen worktop (cost about $75 for 1.8m and $90 for 2.4m with 4x Adils leg ($5/leg). Look something like this

Two-tier Pragel Workstation - IKEA Hackers

The kitchen worktop can be cut to your size that you want with 2 spared laminate strip for the edge.

I did mine and get it cut at a wood cutter shop at Jalan Berseh called Ban Heng Long Trading for $10.

Yeah discontinued. damnit. New house coming and I can't find a cheap and good solution for my L shape space except the galant
