Just a check to those who have overclocked their Alderlake chips.

Have you guys noticed any noticeable gains in games?

Worth the extra heat and power draw?

Not worth to overclock unless you have a competent cooling system. Stock 12900K already warm on even the best AIO.

As for overclocking the 12900K, sure it makes some difference but the biggest difference for Alderlake is memory overclocking. The overclock on the CPU is not something like what performance we could achieve years back. Most of the silicon today be it CPU or GPU, is already pretty maxed out stock.

Interesting, does this solely apply to DDR5 only?

I realized theres also not much tutorials online to undervolt the chip as well.

DDR4 also makes a good difference but with DDR5, the gains comes from high frequency and tightening timings to bring down latencies as of now. DDR5 being new still has loose timings for average speeds. Bumping both frequency and tightening timings is a good healthy gain.

12900k best to leave it stock or you can adjust it to keep it to PL1-125W which runs fairly well.

Im running a 12700k, i guess apart from the slower clock speed and the lesser e-cores its similiar.

Lower cache too. Nevertheless, memory overclocking helps alot for your minimum FPS in taxing games. Problem is memory overclocking is immensely complicated and takes a long time to really get it stable.

I totally agree with the stability part. Sometimes even stress testing wun be able to detect the errors. Very time consuming.

Hmm my system not the most comparable to most since i'm running full custom loop but here's the diff between 5.4p/4.3e all core vs full stock cpu under "daily conditions" i.e. 1440p with rtx etc. Ofcourse 1080p would show more diff but i wanna show realistic conditions.

13th gen should lend itself to some crazy clocks with some tuning. Have some OC friends with an ES 13900k and the numbers i'm seeing is absolutely ridiculous

Intel will likely hold a launch event for the 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" processors on September 27, 2022 (when it's September 28 in Taiwan). This happens to be the same day AMD's Ryzen 7000 "Zen 4" processors go on sale. Pre-orders for these processors will open on October 13, 2022 (or October 14 in Taiwan). This is when you'll be able to order one online. October 20 is when the processors will be available to purchase off the shelf (October 21 in Taiwan)

Benchmark is just a benchmark, a rough gauge of raw performance.

Real-world usage may not translate as expected.
