Intel is the best, intel can never be wrong, intel is forever number 1 :s13:

When you're an enthusiast, there's no other alternative. Offers the most headroom for tweaking. Done right, it's still the outright fastest. Waiting for AMD to properly take over intel, maybe then we'll see proper uplifts gen to gen.

Race to idle scenarios, OC without being forced to disable very deep C states, system stability without splitting hair on firmware updates are really the overall benefits of buying blue currently.
While in-house made chipset is not very wide, power management and IO stability are really tried and tested as well.

Another curt way to put it, time is money or if you are gradually becoming an uncle/shushu, or heart is abit on the weak side, this is also for you.

In 14th gen, even the IMC with the support of firmware supports SAGV (IMC DVFS) based DDR5 p-state OC that was previously a mobile only feature at JEDEC speeds on ICL/TGL-U + LPDDR4/x.

I’m going to bring out the CFL-S point again, 5.3GHz OC with dvfs enabled system I own with the IMC and RAM frquency maxed that is barely powered off since 2017, it still works. No segfault, PCIe AER / WHEA or any other accelerated wear problems despite a heavy OC. (power management does extend the service life of the system as per Intel platform specification pdf docs out there). The long service life has also paid for itself in the ownership cost vs time.

That aside, the platform’s out of factory guardbands are really thick, which is why I can agree with matique’s justification on absolute performance.

Brute strength of the IMC is also unchallenged. People are now even doing things like 96GB RAM at 8GHz+, 192GB OCed, memory compatibility at JEDEC speeds are far from being on the list of concerns as well.

I can only say buy either platform you prefer and find value in the ownership than having an emotional attachment to whatever choice was made.
Well, just an internet opinion.

Yup I never experienced low level problems with Intel, whereas the same can't be said for my 5900X system. On Intel either it works or it doesn't.

Main reason why I went with an i5 12500 for my home server over AMD, aside from idle power consumption.

That is not how you use intel.

Turn it on only when the weather is cold.

Definitely agree with all these points. I don't really hold an emotional attachment to purchases, only see which system is better for me at the given point of time. Case example: me venturing into 5900x territory as it had the potential to be faster than a 10900k, alas it was only on paper and synthetics since a 10900k with a tight 4400c16 OC was faster in games.

The absolute stability of intel CPUs are also a main draw for me. Idle power also makes up for the high power intel CPUs use. When comparing same watts between amd and intel, intel runs cooler as well. imo the biggest barrier for someone looking to get the max out of their system is knowing how to tune the rig properly, with the appropriate cooling to match.

If you are more budget conscious and do not want to tweak much, the recent 7800X3D going for USD$350++ is an absolute steal.

I plan to upgrade soon..
I'm planning to move to intel for it's higher clocks but i have been seeing people under volting to "control" the temperature (which means lowering clocks)

if this is the case, then i don't see a reason to upgrade.
any advise?

undervolting doesnt necessarily lower clocks, it is just lowering the voltage at a given clock which reduces the power consumption. in fact, u may even be able to boost clocks higher as power consumption is reduced at the same frequency, giving u more thermal headroom for the cpu to boost. i wouldnt upgrade solely for clockspeed though, best u look at benchmarks to see how different cpus perform in ur use case and pick the best one. if clockspeeds were the only thing that mattered to u, u probably would have stuck with a fx8350 :s22:

You have to understand every CPU have a different silicon quality. The undervolting is to match the VID of the CPU requested closely to the Vcore the motherboard gives. If left on auto, the motherboard will give a voltage on a 'worst case' scenario. Undervolting or LLC calibration tuning gets the voltage closer to what your CPU silicon quality requires.

tbh.. it doesn't matter to me.. it's the damn game i play that is CPU hungry..
even benchmarks shows 13900k uses 80% average on the assigned P Cores 😭

That's because 13900K is a glorified 8-core processor. It has 8 real cores but 16 fake cores.

Just buy the 7800X3D. It has 8 real cores too but with 3D cache and overall better gaming performance out of the box.

Otherwise, if you are struggling with multi-threaded CPU-intensive applications, it's time to consider processors with 12 or 16 real cores which only AMD can offer.

hmm.. some of us know our work and will do proper reseach and to test things out.
but sad to say majority don't even know what they want. just go blindly whack the highest tier of either platform and expect miracle.

just my opnion, for gamers just whack either 5800X3D or 7800X3D, dont' like the temp, do PBO2, Optimizer Curve and etc.

if you deal with work as in 3D rendering and such, plus gaming.. whack 7950X the few percentage perf where you can't reach on with the 7800X3D and such.. just compromised and accept it.

if you deal with adobe suit, doing tons of AVX coding or decoding and some gaming. Intel will be your choice, again compromise and accept that gaming will not be as great as the X3D from AMD.

as for tuning, that's once you pick a platfrom then if you are hardworking, go do some research. tons of basic or laymen term content on YouTube to fine tune your platform.

to me it's kind of pointless, when you have a problem where you don't dig out how to solve a problem, then yourself is the biggest problem 🤣🤣🤣

Oh. Cause the videos I watched mostly tells me about how to not burn your CPU. They mostly under clock it to like 5.2ghz. Maybe I’m not very savvy here. Thanks for the explanation. Appreciate this.

Back to my topic. Here’s the story. Now I am finally home and got time to type

basically I play Black Desert Online and the game runs optimised on 6 Cores max. Any more cores assigned to the game will make the game unstable.

I’m on 3700x now running at 4.2ghz full load. Graphics settings is not all important on this game as we need to survive and slaughter enemy players.

BDO is a game whereby your combo and damage output relies heavily on your frame rate + low 1% and how much fps you can push.

On a similar GPU setup, 3700x vs 7950x. 7950x output more than double the fps.

From my initial statement. I failed to point out this and I apologise for this cause I was at work. I’m worried about the cooler required. I want to get arctic freezer ii 360 for the 14900kf I’m buying. And I’m not sure if it’s enough. Of course there will be tweaking needed and I believe many of you here are helpful enough to share you experience.

I apologise for the halved assed posts I made previously.

edited: to add on. It’s very hard to find benchmarks on YouTube to get anything near apple to apple comparison. I’m not sure how well 7800x3d can perform on BDO also. I just know I need to go highest possible cpu (gpu mid tier enough) but I’m worried about the cpu thermals.

cute @Phen8210 .. 😂

@siaodi understood, as for 14900KF dont expect the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 to do miracle with mobo default settings. Yes the liquid cooler is good but most best liquid AIOs will result in the same manner, cos newer processor behaviour is totally different from the past. Mobo by default, it will just deter how much cooling your liquid cooler + case airflow is.. your processor will just pull the power wattage up to perform, (no good in long run)
therefore causing temperature to remain high. Plus these days mobo are super aggressive with the power providence.

To be honest, the choice is yours. 14900KF is seriously overkill if you dont use it to do work and just gaming.

in that case I would recommend the 7800x3d if you would like an easy out of the box experience that would deliver a pretty great experience right out of the box. I am a tuner, my brother isn't. He's very happy with his 7800x3d setup :) Just need to install cpu, set up PBO a little and set xmp for decent 6000c30 sticks and you are good to go! Just know that the 7800x3d isn't exactly a cool chip either, and AMD has setup it in such a way that it would scale in frequency as long as there's thermal headroom so high temps are expected, but normal.

i actually like the idea of just setting PBO + xmp profile and throw everything to the back of my head...
that's what i'm doing on my current 3700x.. simple tweaks..
i've been on AMD all my life cause it's cheaper and games my era (and some of yours) didn't used to require tons of CPU power..

anyways.. i do other things as well of course.. not just purely gaming..
running VMs for proofs of concepts, video recording on obs and such.
a little video editing (cut and combine videos only no special editing)

so what you guys mean is arctic freezer aio won't be my lord my saviour la..
and down volting enough to reach my satisfactory CPU performance while not pushing the temps too high is still important for preserving the lifespan of my CPU.
right?

anywayssssssssssssssss...
the 6 ticks are the 6 CPUs i manually assigned to the game.
I'm running the game on the lowest possible setting.. lowest of the lowest....
i'm on strix 3080ti btw and i have no plans to up my gpu cause the benefit doesn't justify the need to change..
and finally, i'm not a tuner myself altho i eat IT for a living

if you using VM better not get hybrid architecture, many reported issue such as with vmware.. side effect also happen to other application not just virtualisation.

i should have the choice to disable E Cores and just leave P Cores on with HT right? like that shouldn't have issue.. machiam falling back to old skool intel.

just that a bit more troublesome la.. every time want to do work i need to tweak bios.. play game need to tweak bios..

edited: a quick google and i found some compatibility issues on vmware workstation with 12th/13th hybrid architecture.. but it seems like a software issue.. simple fix.. i firmly believe that the vmware bois will resolve those issues eventually.. :geek:
