Best is to terminate ST after M1 is up and running.

From what I read here, due to Covid-19 Netlink trust might need more time than usual.

Netlink trust need to come your house to check the signal before isp can send their people down.

Sent from A universe Where pink PWNED everything using GAGT

We can confirm that NLT installation dates are slightly delayed for all ISPs, so you might want to check in with the provider you've chosen for slots to make sure there isnt a gap in your service.

But one guy claims & i quote:

“I asked for ONT as I have my own wireless router. They say they stopped issuing ONT, and will come with ONR.”

Unless got black & white from them that its ONT, better be careful unless u dont mind ONR. That said, black & white also CMI. Like stinktel lah. Use their online support & contacted 3 or 4 different staff to ask ONT or ONR. Get so many different replies!

technically it is true they issue ONR now, the black Huawei Echolife HG8244H. Since they can configure it in bridge mode, it functions as an ONT. Just have to make the request at the point of signing up, and reconfirm before they come down.

all in black n white (email, chat with emailed transcript).

as for different story, yes, i encounted one fella, thinking he is smarter than customer, and the only one saying a different thing from the others.

you can try their "no contract" and test water before your current plan expires.

Can’t help but be paranoid cos the contracts are all at least 12 months. Make a mistake & im in the shyt for a year at least.

Honestly i am seriously looking at m1. Just that i had concerns about their typical download speeds as per my earlier posts.

I know its just a guide but when m1 says the low end of their speed range is 400+ while red and green are boasting 800+, either red & green are calculating differently or m1 is being overly modest. Imagine a 1 gbps wired connection getting only 400+ mbps. A bit the slow lor.

just a thought, perhaps only m1 (out of the 3 traffic light telcos) has a 500mbps plan, so their speed range has to cover both the 500Mbps and 1Gbps plans.

st and sh only have 1Gbps and above, so their reported speeds reflect that.

having said that, i observe that my m1 (500Mbps plan) during evening peak and weekends, drops speed to as low as 80-90Mbps, while my wc (300Mbps, waiting for speedboost any time now) stays around 250-280.

off peak hours, both are close to the provisioned speeds.

tested on same router, same target/host, wired connection, within minutes of each other.

I suspect that m1 is more congested as the ping times go up significantly. Dunno if this is a differentiator between congestion and throttling.

for m1 and wc, the prices are close enough.
i'd say go for m1 if you need home phone line. the 500MB sim is icing on the cake.
wc is cheaper but no 500MB sim, no bundled home line (if want, there is a one time activation charge)

all depends on what you want/need
hope this helps. cheers

https://www.starhub.com/personal/home-broadband/fibre-broadband-plans/fibre-500mbps.html

Starhub has 500Mbps Fibre Broadband. I have used it since 2015 (was on Starhub Cable broadband before). It is at S$29.9 from the very beginning until now. So even when I was out of contract for a year, they still charged me S$29.9. But I was a bit cautious and then renew for another two years in Sept 2018 (no free routers with recontract).

Now they do not give free routers even for new signup of the 500Mbps plan, same as M1 or Whizcomms.

It is okay, pretty stable, occasionally the tenants will call me about internet connection issues, then I ask them to reset the router and it will be okay.

The issued router in 2015 was D-Link DIR-865L AC1750, predecessor to the good old DIR-868L, not too bad actually (good coverage for the 118sqm flat) but aging now. I may change it to a relatively new Huawei WS5200 Quad Core AC1200 once I get the new Huawei AX3 Pro.

In the beginning they also gave free Starhub Cable TV Lite, but that free services stopped in September last year after they no longer offer Cable TV services.

I myself use SingTel 1Gbps plan (upgraded from 500Mbps plan in Sept 2018) at home.

glad you have a positive experience with sh.

i was with their mobile for almost 10 years, and cable for almost 20 years. a long litany of poor support and being like an alpha test site. won't say more, just glad to be out of there.

i hear good things about them recently, but burned too badly for too long, to want to tempt fate :)

the no router upon re-contract is just part of the "boosting bottom line" efforts. Could feel it with the constant re-packaging of sh cable offerings when i was still with them.

only 1 entry AX router to consider.. :s11:

To be fair, Asus RT-AX3000 router (RT-AX58U) is a very good mid-end WiFi 6 router compared, better than the most of the bundled routers from other ISPs. The router is selling at about S$235. So the S$49.99 per month cost from MyRepublic is still not too bad.

Still M1/Starhub/Whizcomms may be cheaper.

From the ONR/ONT thread.

1. SingTel : pretty complicated
Public IP: yes, no static add-on

SingTel provide same connection for Internet and Fibre TV, vlan is needed. For ONR users, Vlan is handled by the ONR.

SingTel 1+1Gbps plan, the ONR will be configured as three port ONR and one port ONT, I believe that ONT port does not require vlan.

Certain users have asked Singtel to provide a special configuration for the ONR, three ports for SingTel TV only without internet access, one port ONT without vlan.

2. Whizcomms
Public IP
Whizcomms provides ONR, but you can ask them to configure the ONR in ONT mode prior to installation without charges. No Vlan needed.

3.M1
Public IP, ONT, no vlan needed.

4.Starhub
Public IP, ONT, no vlan needed.
Starhub uses different ONT ports to deliver Fibre Internet and Fibre TV.

Starhub 2Gbps plan: ONT port 1 and ONT port 3 used to deliver 2x1Gbps connection, ONT port 2 for Starhub Fibre TV

Starhub IPTV users, if need to mix internet and IPTV through same connection, special vlan configuration will be needed.

5. MyRepublic
Carrier Grade NAT, free Static IP subscription for MyRepublic Customers, one time charge of S$50.
https://myrepublic.net/sg/add-ons/static-ip/

6.Viewquest
1Gbps plan: ONT
2Gbps plan: ONR (2Gbps one network plan)
Static IP provided for free, no one time charge.
Ref: https://viewqwest.com/internet/2gbps

BTW, MR caps upload speed to 500Mbps for the 1Gbps plan.

From the ONR/ONT thread.

Ref:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...and-official-thread-part-5-a-5465321-104.html

Viewquest used to offer 2Gbps multi network plan where the Zhone modem router can be configured in bridge mode, it is basically 2x1Gbps plan like the Starhub 2Gbps plan.

M1 used to offer 2Gbps plan as well. I believe it is similar to the Starhub case.

Not do sure about M1 5Gbps and 10Gbps plan (no longer offered for new users).

SingTel 10Gbps plan: ONR
SuperInternet 10Gbps plan: your own HW
Vewquest 10Gbps plan: your own HW

Why SingTel promotes the use of ONR and special SingTel routers?

From other thread.
*******
This thread has the detailed discussion for ONR with 3rd party AP.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...clinic-4/singtel-onr-ap-issues-5778791-3.html

Not true. For new huawei onr, i believe the static route is based on port level, not ip address as b4. Hence when it detect iptv on the port the whole port switch to iptv. More info can be found here http://support.huawei.com/hedex/res...C0520P/04/resources/feature/feature_2206.html

Part of the reason why singtel force us to use onr now is that certain "services" on the mio stb do not work solely on vlan20 anymore, eg stingray music, netflix and probably many more to come. What the singtel provided ap does (ont days) is to assign a special address to your mio stb (typically 192.168.1.196) and static route all multicast, igmp and dns traffic destined for vlan20 while allowing internet traffic to enter vlan10 (netflix), all while being natted into the same subnet as your other devices (for the remote control feature of the singtel tv go app). 3rd party routers simply mapped lan ports to vlan20 on the wan trunk, causing these value added services not to work as mio stbs were assigned 'public' ips from singtel. So singtel came up with a sneaky solution -- the onr..

I've checked with Singtel technical team on this, there is no need to purchase a managed switch and configure vlan again. It's simply a waste of resource..

The crucial feature is that unmanaged switch must support igmp snooping, or else it will be a case of internet working but not Singtel tv or vice versa scenario.

All MANAGED switch supports igmp snooping but not all UNMANAGED switch support igmp snooping.

moving to new place soon, need some advise which one should i go for new sign-up

my usage would be 2x laptops, 3x phones and a 4K tv (mainly netflix and ps/xbox only), small unit about 500sqft

considering among the big 3 not sure which providing the best overall, price wise not much different (except singtel give 10% off my existing mobile plans)

1. Singtel - Singtel Mesh Router + ONR
2. Starhub - Nokia Beacon 1
3. M1 - Asus AT-RC2600

also another question is the 500mbps enough for my usage, or i should just top up a bit to get 1gbps?

- 500Mbps would be sufficient.
- If there is budget, I wouldn't recommend getting the wireless routers that are provided by the ISPs as they are just lower end models. If you want to maximise your wifi speeds/reliability, get them seperately. Some ISPs allow you to top up to get mid end models at a good discount.

Take note only 1Gbps plan gives free router.

Recommend to go with M1 500Mbps and buy your own router. It has one advantage versus Starhub 500Mbps plan that digital voice is free.

500Mbps is sufficient. You can buy the same brand new RT-AC2600 from Carousell for about S$90 to S$100, a bit cheaper than buying from M1 (S$5 per month for 24 month). Or buy second hand EA8100 from Carousell at about S$25 to S$50.

But it is also okay to go with Starhub as well if you do not need digital voice. You can go with the same RT-AC2600 or EA8100 router from Carousell. Or you can buy two brand new Nokia Beacon 1 from Carousell for about S$90 to S$100 to form a mesh.

Of course you can buy better routers at higher cost, eg, Asus RT-AX58U/AX88U/etc based on your budget.

SingTel does not normally offer 500Mbps to new customers. Even if it does the price will be higher.

actually i think it is more worth it to get the 1gbps plan than the 500Mbps plan. firstly they give free wifi router and you also get faster speed. in the end, although the 500Mbps plan is cheap by $10 per month, but over like 12 months contract, the savings of $120 is already covered by the free wifi router given and also the faster speed already.
