totally not attractive deals as compare to the 3 traffic light telcos. might as well stick to them instead.

Quality of the broadband imo is more important... I think for MRP, the AX11000 deal is the most attractive. but again not everyone is willing to pay a premium price for the flagship

actually i think it is more worth it to get the 1gbps plan than the 500Mbps plan. firstly they give free wifi router and you also get faster speed. in the end, although the 500Mbps plan is cheap by $10 per month, but over like 12 months contract, the savings of $120 is already covered by the free wifi router given and also the faster speed already.

This is true for New users who do not have existing router. For recontract users, they already have working existing router then the story changed and 500 Mbps is cheaper.

Myrepublic is offering 200Mbps plan at S$27.99 per month. Not so attractive though as Whizconms has the Speedboost to 500Mbps at S$26.9.

https://myrepublic.net/sg/broadband-promotions/200mbps-broadband/

$27.99/mth applies for 24 months

FREE Termination Point Installation (worth up to $160.50) for new customers

FREE Home phone line with unlimited local calls

$53.50 service installation fee

$56.71 NLT service activation fee

FREE Termination Point Installation (worth up to $160.50) for new customers

this one is still not bad for those without fibre termination point yet. it is quite a saving.

Signal strength

Sent from A universe Where pink PWNED everything using GAGT

u mean even you have existing fibre termination point already, if you change ISP such as starhub. starhub also cannot just send people in to put the ONT and wifi router to get you connected to Internet but must engage Netlink trust people still?

even you have existing fibre termination point already, no matter which isp you change to, NLT will send their technician to check the signal strength first

Do take note MR is on NAT IP address (internal ip that don't allow public to connect to you)

Therefore if you hosting ip cam and service on fiber will not work unless u sign up for public IP address for a few.

What is your main goal in switching?

To save cost? Take note you can try to negotiate with SingTel to get similar pricing with other ISPs (S$39.9 per month for 1Gbps). Also take note of the NLT charges will negate the potential savings when switch ISPs this year.

If you are not happy with ONR, talk to Singtel to bridge the ONR.

Please also take note MyRepublic uses carrier grade NAT which you will not get no public IP address. You can get static IP for S$50 one time charge though.

what is the price are you paying now for singtel? if the price difference is not significant. dun see a reason to switch out of singtel.

switching ISPs will have extra upfront cost incurred also which will eat into the monthly saving you can have.

no public ip is a bummer for MR. even can pay one time fee for a static public ip, the static ip can be another bummer in future.

No real saving to switch ISP or else everyone will start switching to save cost.

Yes you can save cost by downgrading to 500Mbps plan, especially for existing M1 and Starhub 1Gbps customers.

For other 1Gbps subscribers with other ISPs, you can still downgrade to M1, Starhub and Whizcomms 500Mbps to save cost. It is just the savings will be reduced because of the NLT charges and overlapping charges and other potential charges.

Yes I understand. The other miscellaneous charge will reduce the saving.
Whizcomms is $26.90 for 500 Mbps plan.

Updates:
1. SingTel : pretty complicated
Public IP: yes, no static add-on
ONT users: 6rd IPv6
ONR users: no IPv6, but some say can request from Singtel

SingTel provide same connection for Internet and Fibre TV, vlan is needed. For ONR users, Vlan is handled by the ONR.

SingTel 1+1Gbps plan, the ONR will be configured as three port ONR and one port ONT, the ONT port does not require vlan.

Certain users have asked Singtel to provide a special configuration for the ONR with the 1Gbps plan, three ports for SingTel TV only without internet access, one port ONT without vlan.

Singtel 2Gbps plan: aggregated 2Gbps, must use Singtel ONR, not possible to bridge the ONR

2.Starhub
Public IP, ONT, no vlan needed. With native IPv6.
Starhub uses different ONT ports to deliver Fibre Internet (ONT Port 1) and Fibre TV if you are using the Fibre TV Set Top box (ONT Port 2). New Starhub TV+ box is different, it needs to be connected to the router.

Starhub 2Gbps plan: ONT port 1 and ONT port 3 used to deliver 2x1Gbps connection, ONT port 2 for Starhub Fibre TV.

3.M1 (500Mbps and 1Gbps plan)
Public IP, ONT, no vlan needed. Native IPv6.
Customers can pay for Static IP add-on.

4. MyRepublic (200Mbps, 1Gbps and 1+1 Gbps plan).
Using ONT
Carrier Grade NAT, no public IP by default.
You can pay one time charge of S$50 for the Static IP.
No vlan needed.
MR caps upload speed to 500Mbps for the 1Gbps plan.
No IPv6.

5.Viewquest (500Mbps, 1Gbps, 2Gbps plan)
1Gbps plan: ONT or ONR (you can bridge)
2Gbps plan: ONR (2Gbps one network plan), you can not bridge
Static IP provided for free, no one time charge. But there are new 500Mbps plan and low cost 1Gbps plan which comes with dynamic public IP.
No more IPv6.

6. Whizcomms (300Mbps->500Mbps and 1Gbps plan)
Public IP, no IPv6.
Whizcomms provides ONR, but you can ask them to configure the ONR in ONT mode prior to installation without charges. No Vlan needed.

Impressions of ISPs in 2020.

1) Best in terms of stability: Singtel; Whizcomms is using Singtel network, therefore it is also pretty stable.

M1 was issued a financial penalty of $400,000 for broadband service disruptions in May, while StarHub was given a penalty of $210,000 for similar disruptions in April. M1 has further breakdowns later.

Viewquest seems to be the worst with constant breakdown for quite a large percentage of users.

2) Fastest: Viewquest and MyRepulic

3) Best in terms of offer for new users and recontract users: Starhub

4) Good latency: Viewquest and MyRepublic and M1

5) Good IPv6 support: M1 and Starhub

6) No or almost no throttling of BT traffic: Viewquest and Myrepublic.

7) Best valus ISP plans: 500Mbps plan from Whizcomms, M1 and Starhub

Overall Best ISPs: it depends on each individual.

I think the fastest ISP, not necessarily the fastest.

To me the most recommended value for money plan is M1 500Mbps as it offers free digital voice, followed by Whizcomms and Starhub 500Mbps plan.

And for those who want two ISP lines, then select two out of the above three.

i always thought myrepublic ran on singtel infra. unless nowadays they are their own Opco haha

I think you mix it up with Whizcomms which does run on Singtel infrasture. MyRepublic has its own infrastrcture for Fibre internet.

On the other hand, it is an MVNO in terms of mobile operation after losing the bid to TPG for 4G mobile services, initially with Starhub and now changes to M1.
