there are many backup options. for iphone, can backup to mac or pc as well, using itunes. no need to backup to icloud.

to transfer to a new iphone, can backup to mac/pc first, then restore from mac/pc to new iphone.
or
can directly transfer from old iphone to new iphone during new iphone setup.

for mac, can use time machine to backup the files. 2tb hdd are so cheap now, just buy one to use for time machine backup. as long as it is connected to the mac, mac will perform backup automatically when the mac is on.

i am using the free 5gb icloud to backup the most important stuff on my iphone and ipad. both of them used less than 3gb, with more than 2gb left on icloud. there is no need to spend money on icloud imo.

I use ICloud to backup all my photos, save a great hassle than transferring to computer......

Is it, having that sense of security that since all things are stored in iCloud, there isn't the possibility of thumbdrive corruption?

Coz my calculation and thinking is like this: S$12.98 x 12mths = 155.76/yr (2tb share with max 5 family members) so each one avg 400gb

But if each family member get their own 512gb thumbdrive, isn't it cheaper in the long run.

thumb drive might be cheaper but u can’t beat cloud storage for accessibility. esp e integration offered by iCloud.

It will but it will automatically free up space. For example if you have 128gb and your photos is only 80gb. Basically all your photos will be on both phone and iCloud

But when it reaches close to 128 of photos, more and more photos will only have a “thumbnail” on your phone and normally the more recent photos will remain on the phone.

If you have 1tb of photos, the. Only the very recent photos will be on your phone

Basically you don’t need to do any archiving and just let iCloud do its magic

Thank you for your elaboration. Let say if we delete the main photo on our photo app, will it delete on iCloud?

Yes. But it goes into a deleted folder which will store your photos for 30 days (on iCloud). You can manually delete here if you want it to disappear immediately but I don’t bother

And it will auto sync, on your iPhone, Mac and iPad

That’s what my friend said too. .... until he lost his phone. He didn’t back up for months as it was too tedious. So he lost months of data, latest contact additions, WhatsApp chat etc

Now he is a convert

I used to have 3 sets of hard disk to back up my backups. Now I don’t bother. As you grow older, money becomes less important. Money can earn, memories once gone are gone forever

Is 30W a relatively 'safe' wattage to charge the phone without degrading the battery too quickly?

Or stick to 18-20W on the safe side?

LumiHealth app is active, for those of us with Apple Watch

wanted to sign up but the data requirements are way over the top. It requires giving access to 3rd party company your MyInfo data via singpass. What has our detailed personal info like marital status, employment, children, race have to do with fitness? The intention is good but seems very lax about privacy

if anyone has signed up, please correct me if they didn't collect so much personal data. thx

Ok bro I find this aspect useful to me.

For me I seldom add pictures. I add new songs downloaded from my lenovo laptop to my iPhone via iTunes. Quite frequently when I hear any new 80s songs on Gold90.5 or new Mandopop on 93.3, and when I accumulate in blocks of 5, I will sync to my iPhone. I will plug in my iPad and sync from hard disk to iPad too.

I read up, if I enable iCloud Music, means I no need to do double job. Sync from laptop to iPhone=iPad will get updated with the latest song synced too. Correct?

You can even plug in to 65w or 100w, doesn’t matter. The iPhone will control

I use Apple Music and they have most of the songs I need.

I believe it should auto sync as there is an option to “sync library”
