iPhone XS Esim question

Managed to convert to eSIM after calling 1627. Works well so far for me - labeled Business line and Personal.
2 small inconveniences so far:
Can only use 1 line for iMessage and Facetime
Cannot use 2 whatsapp accounts.

Prefer use single Sim on 1 phone instead of dual sim

Saw a lot of people using 2 phones outside so I’m not alone. Even my colleagues also use 2 phones.

eventually they will all adopt it. just a matter time. but likely user will have option if they want physical or e-sim.

One telco to test water if successful then other follow suit to charge same price. If adoption rate not good, the other telcos can under cut and draw customers to switch over to them.

Still can’t resolve to use 2 whatsapps account in 1 phone, then esim still rather useless I feel.

You should blame WA instead of eSIM.

Even on Android also not a official WA solution, its some kind like hack.

Re imessage and FaceTime.
You mean one account at a time? You can set up 2 phone number in your iCloud and set both to receive?

You can also designate one line for data usage right? Depending on which country you Are in and both lines can still receive iMessage/FaceTime calls?

Setting in imessage only allows you to receive from 1 line.
Data you scan switch between the 2 lines anytime so should not be a problem

Android can use Parallel Space app, then can use dual Whatsapp without any hack.

Anyway, I'll be receiving a XS Max tomorrow and just to double-check, the eSIM feature now only for M1? And for those who're using Apple Watch cellular models on Singtel, transferring from old phone to new phone no need to unsubscribe and re-subscribe like changing from Series 3 to 4?

eSIM is just a digitalization of your physical sim. It only implementation is the telco that issues those sim card that is all. you can still data roam as per normal like your physical card just now without your physical card.


The general and good idea is to have your home telco using eSIM.

Then your physical sim card slot can be used after you buy those cheap data simcard for the country you are visiting and use the physical sim for data there.

Want to ask the Masters here has.anyone tried it already in China? The the sg esim number still works for voice and data? Cc an anyone confirm?

Now I’m using dual physical SIM card.
Just simple switch over to Malaysia network for using the internet and shares hotspots.

Getting us to use esim still must charge us $5?

May as well use physical sim forever at no cost

Don't think I will buy iPhone next time already, paid so much for this iphone then still spent > $70 on accessories, cables, earphone dongle and now still need pay esim fees, and reactivation still charge again when change phone in future. Last time I still paid for nano sim for duno $30+

No thanks, I'm a simple person. They can implement esim for all they want and I didn't die using physical sim for decade without a need to change to either

its not specific to iPhone, if they roll this out to all android phones, it will be the same.. it is the telco that is charging it, apple is not forcing any charges to the telco for using esim.

yes i agree that charging $5 per activation is abit too much, hopefully after it becomes the norm, the fees will be waived hopefully?

oh yes, according to the CSO, first time activation is free, only subsequent re-activation is 5$

well, for now, esim is just an additional feature on the XS/XR. you can stick to physical sim as long as you like. same for me too.

think we wait till the day future iPhones only come with esim with no physical sim slot, then decide.

Hi Guys,

I have seen quite a number of people suggesting,

"The general and good idea is to have your home telco using eSIM."

However what about, home telco with Physical SIM & Oversea with eSIM?
My idea is that since i'm in SG, i would use Physical SIM & whenever i travel, i could just purchase an eSIM (QRCode) in target country since eSIM profile can be change easily. The benefit over here is you do not need to exchange sim card whenever you are oversea.
Of course currently not much country capable to support eSIM but it just matter of time right? And there are global telco that you can utilize for now (ex: Gigsky/Truphone).


Any thoughts?
