Furthermore, shouldn’t esim’s hardware cost much lesser for telco than giving out a physical sim?

For postpaid users the cost might not be that great, since the issuance of the SIM card is about once every 1-2 years or more, or during signups or recontract. But the most should be coming from prepaid SIM cards.

My opinion/suggestion:
Tourists or people can be issued with the QR code from the telco to install/download the eSIM profile.

The dynamic QR code can be created/generated and display on the CSO’s computer or tablet. Makes the carbon footprint even lower than printing QR codes.

The download of eSIM via an app might not work for tourists or prepaid, since there isn’t proper verification of identity.

You are totally wrong, Singtel already not replacing new SIM card for re-contract. I have been using the same SIM card for at least 3 times of re-contract, 6 years.

sim card not spoilt why need to replace?

every subscriber is entitled to one free replacement per year and i have changed twice for the last 2 years due to nfc ezlink sim card failure.

I have also recontracted and not given a new sim card and i thought this practice has been for years?

Thailand all telcos avail on prepaid e sim

I am flying to Taipei mid March, I know there are few telcos that offer eSim but not sure if it’s only for post paid only

Looks promising for my next trip

m1 customer here, deciding whether to try esim

call 1627 to activate esim, then then the physical sim will be useless. charges $35

change to non iphone, deactivate esim, have to get a new physical sim as cannot use back original sim, another $35

this could easily be a $70 experiment

eSIM should have exactly the same functionality as the physical sim , just a different form factor
