no such thing as must-go coz it all depends on individual.
u can refer to japan-guide for the list of attractions, ranked by popularity.

the main attractions will probably be USJ, aquarium and castle.
with 6 days, u can also make side trips to kyoto, kobe and nara

I did. Nothing fanciful. Headrest use bb8 flaps to cover. bb8 napkins. Stewardess in bb8 aprons. Utensils are normal, no Star Wars design. Yoda plushy for display. That’s about it.

try to group places in the same area into the same day, coz i noticed the places us are going seems to be all over the place. for example:

kawasaki is outside of tokyo city, so need to cater time to get there. overall, the itinerary looks packed coz u are travelling too many places in a day.

u can refer to japan-guide on the popular areas in tokyo, then group ur places accordingly.
e.g.
shinjuku - tokyo metropolitan gov building
ikebukuro - sunshine city, pokemon centre
odaiba - palette town, gundam cafe, legoland

Thanks for the link, i also saw this while googling for mt fuji day trip. Currently, this looks better than those klook/govoyagin which includes 2-3 hrs of shopping at premium outlets. There are some jap tours also offering mt fuji sights + lakes tour but more ex.

Will KIV this against tokyohelperjane with her private tour but need min 4 ppl.

Posting my final itineraries here as options for Japan noobs/ non-otakus , both pieced tgt after going through HWZ and TripAdvisor

5D Solo Trip in March/Apr 2018: Bought SIN > HKG (Scoot), HKG > FUK (HKExpress), redeemed miles back, total spend: ~$900

Day 1: Arrive in Fukuoka at 7PM
- Find a hotel with an onsen and chill out
- Night bus to Hiroshima. This was the worst idea. Having tried night buses in the U.S. (West + East cost), and Turkey, I thought Japan would be walk (sleep) in the park, but no. The buses are old and have no suspension, and poor circulation. There was no way to sleep)

Day 2: Arrive in Hiroshima
- Miyajima Island: Identify that atomic bomb site is quite small, proceed to explore Miyajima via bus and ferry. OD on oysters on MIyajima Island. There is also a coffee roastery here.

Day 3: Onomichi, Hiroshima
- Start of a cycling trail to Shikoku, also an old artist’s enclave. Many temples.
- Hike Mitaki Temple (really beautiful shrine with bird eye view of Hiroshima)

Day 4:
Shinkansen back to Fukuoka.
Shopping in Fukuoka and Tenjin

Day 5:
Akizuki - an ancient Samurai town 1h drive away from Fukuoka, with amazing sakura
Shopping at Hakata heheh

Day 6: Wake up at 0816 for my 10AM flight back to SG. Freak out, and run to the train station with luggage. Am checked in and cleared immigration by 0910. Heh



12D Couple trip in June 2017 – Total $2,300/pax, no car.
Redeemed SIN-HND on SQ, took AirAsia back. Used the JR Pass. Incorporated Fukuoka for my foodie travel buddy, and some Mount Fuji views which failed b/c it was summer. We are late risers and early sleepers (as in I sleep early, he wakes up late), so our itinerary is pretty chill.

TOKYO
Day 1: Tsukiji, Ginza, Akihabara (30,000 steps walked, because I was too cheap to take train)
- Tsukiji Fish Market
- Imperial Palace Gardens (there’s some free guide and wifi, iirc)
- Akihabara (it was really empty .. …. )
- Shin-Ekoda (near our Aibnb) for some local ramen

Day 2: Shinjuku/Shibuya, etc
- Levain Bakery (if you like sourdough, this place is for you)
- Yoyogi Park (Great for a midday nap)
- Harajuku (with the owl café)
- Shibuya /Omotesando
- Ikebukuro (Awesome ramen)

Day 3: Disneyland + Ikebukuro
- Disneyland (DisneySEA was sold out). Would not recommend unless you like queueing, children, queuing children, and also smelling their pee)
- Hotel Tiffany in Ikebukuro (a word about Japanese love hotels – they’re really clean but they feel really dirty, what with boarded up windows and stuff, and lotsa strange pron. It remains an inside joke for us to this day. It also felt really gross handing cash over to the obasan for the few hours)
- Coffee Valley (across the road from Hotel Tiffany) to recover from the sordid experience. Both the male and female in this relationship had to recover.
- Ikebukuro’s Daimaru etc for bento boxes!

ATAMI:

Days 4, 5: We would skip this next time, other than our Airbnb, there was nothing there)
Took the train to Atami to our amazing Airbnb with private onsen for <$200. Realized there was nothing there. Just Mount Omuro, which exceeded my travel budget…. Spent hours walking in the summer heat. Cooked for our host and played with her dog. Walked around spying on people’s houses. Had the most amazing conversations with our host, who advised us on our itinerary and on Japan.

KYOTO

Day 6: Kyoto, Fukuoka
- Full day in Higashiyama district just eating and taking touristy photos (this was the best)
- Change train to head to Fukuoka
- Discovered amazeballs yakitori (炭火焼鳥焼串　てっぺん)

FUKUOKA
Day 7: Nokonoshima and shopping
- Nokonoshima Island (always has flowers, goats and rabbits. JPY100 to feed the rabbits)
- Omakase Sushi Meal
- Shopping at KITTE HAKATA (at Hakata station) and Tenjin
- Dinner at Izakaya 混

Day 8: More shopping
- Curry at GARAM (as a Singaporean, not worth it. But Japanese liked)
- REC Coffee at Hakata (their baristas must pass a test before becoming employed)
- More yakitori and ramen

NAGANO
Day 9: Otw to Nagano
- Popped by Shin-Kobe to say hi to a friend and pick up cheap snacks as souvenirs
- Make it to Bessho Onsen, Nagano. A walking town
- Spend and obscene amount of money on an old railway that the town keeps for memory’s sake. Most people don’t take it anymore as they have cars.

BESSHO ONSEN
Day 10, 11: Bessho Onsen
- Hikes > Onsens > Yakitori and Beer with locals > Repeat
- Chill out with our artist hosts

TOKYO
Day 12: Tokyo Tower (we had time, and it was really tiny)

I don’t know how you’re going to hit Akihabara with the other two places. Shops there close around 8pm. I could spend more than half a day just at Tokyo Solamachi to check out all the shops.

very ambitious , unless the places is either within walking distance or nearby. I always believe keeping to 3-4 places a day is all right, you need to include meal time, traveling time, chill time?

if this is your first time, take it slow. think many have taken 2 weeks for Tokyo and also not sufficient.

I’m not sure if you’re into shopping. A lot of malls. Unless you’re into touch-and-go. I once brought a friend to Shibuya, she spent quite a number of hours inside Shibuya109 buying clothes. I instead spent hours inside Tokyu Hands. There’s a Disney Store in the vicinity. As for Harajuku and Shibuya, there’s some distance away from each location. Meiji Shrine closes at 5pm, you need to walk a long stretch before reaching the main ground. There’s a small private garden as well. Kiddyland is along Omotesando area.

Outlet mall shopping - I’ve been there once during winter last year but I only bought something from Nikon store and Columbia. Unless you are into Le Creuset stuff.

I can’t tell you much - it’s individual’s preference. I’ve been to Akiba for three consecutive days during summer (there’s summer events) and two in a row in my first trip. Was searching for things. Mandarake if you’re heading there, is not child-friendly. Narrow stairways and super tight lift. Tokyo Skytree is more tourists and child-friendly. Big foodcourt, lots of walking space - imagine ION 1F-4F. Many shops and eateries and souvenir stores.

Tokyo station has a few areas - Ramen Street, Gransta, Character Street inside Ichiban Street. Plus a few huge malls around the area.

Chubu and Tokyo April May 2019

Continuing the discussion from the other thread, decided to write up my tentative itinerary.

April 19th (Fri): Arrive at Nagoya from Sg at 9.30am. Bring luggage to hotel and explore Nagoya. Take bus to Nabana no sato for illumination. If no illumination, stay in Nagoya city walk around. (Nagoya shortened to one night to make more room for Takayama) Or should I still keep it as two nights?

April 20th (Sat): Check out hotel. Explore more Nagoya city. Start Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto pass. Train to Takayama after lunch. Check in and walk around old town. Try to find Hida beef for dinner or next day lunch. Any recommendations?

April 21st (Sun): Morning market. Bus to festival museum. Back and do Higashiyama walk.

April 22nd (Mon): Check out hotel and send luggage to Tokyo. Bus to Shirakawago. Lunch and walk around. Bus to Toyama.

April 23rd (Tues): Alpine route. Proceed to Matsumoto after collecting hand carry luggage at Shinano Omachi.

April 24th (Wed): Matsumoto castle and surroundings. Evening train to Kofu for overnight stay.

April 25th (Thurs): Bus direct from Kofu to Kawaguchiko. See shibazakura. Take train/bus to Shinjuku depending on availability. Check in hotel at Kanda/Oimachi.

April 26th (Fri): Hitachi seaside park for nemophilia. KIV either join tour or take train. If trying to avoid more long distance travel due to golden week, dont think JR Tokyo wide pass would be useful?

April 27th (Sat): Tokyo - Kameido tenjin Shrine for wisteria if blooming. North side Tokyo Ueno and Ameyoko.
April 28th (Sun): Tokyo - Shibuya and Harajuku
April 29th (Mon): Tokyo - Shinjuku, Shinjuku garden if still got nice flowers
April 30th (Tues): Asakusa and Tokyo Station for final shopping . Currently considering taking 10pm flight back to Sg. Previous plan was May 1st 9am.

Disclaimer: Traveling solo. Fifth time to Japan. Tokyo section not planned out as I have been there in previous trips. Plan to just walk around and do some shopping. Currently, KIV showa kinen park or any festivals going on at the time. Due to golden week, not traveling far.

Hi all, need some help. Is it feasible to travel to Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo in 14 days? Never been to Japan before. Going in mid May 2019 in a group of 7 lazy ass. And also, Airbnb vs Hotel, which one will be better? Thanks in advance!
