6-7 said isn't enough to cover both.

Takes more than half a day to get from Tokyo to Osaka. Add time to check in and out of another hotel. Shinkansen tickets also not cheap.

You'll need time to get used to taking local transport etc.

Can't go wrong with either. There's side trips from both Osaka and Tokyo.

Intend to spend 6d5n at Tokyo, is it overkill?

Will love to visit some nature scenery too

Hi all, just wondering if there are recommendations for a 2D1N trip from Tokyo to somewhere nearby, with nice sights and food where we can also stay overnight in a ryokan? Something like Nikko but we have went there before.

Thanks!

How will u guys combine some of the attractions?

we prefer to take it easy, and also visit some place of interest too
The two parks I mentioned are within Tokyo city.

Usually for me, I just have a full day at Tachikawa: Showa Kinen Park (3-4hrs), shopping malls or cafes around JR Tachikawa station. I always make a trip to Nitori and Junkudo bookstore inside Tachikawa Takashimaya to stock up my Japanese magazines and books. Bookoff Super Bazaar is also huge in Tachikawa. There’s an Ikea store if you’d like to visit its restaurant. The menu is different from the ones located in Shibuya/Harajuku/Shinjuku.

Inokashira Park is located on one side of Kichijoji station. Closer to Ghibli Museum. If you liked cafes, bakeries and small zakka shops, can hang around Kichijoji.

Do take note Mt. Mitake is not that close to Tokyo city, you’ll need to do train transfers/buses depending on which area you’re visiting. Mt. Tsukuba is in Ibaraki, there’s direct train from Asakusa via Tsukuba Express but you’ll need to take a local bus to reach your destination. Hitachi Seaside Park requires train transfers and bus ride as well. It’s also in Ibaraki. Nikko also requires a few transfers. Please note all the above mentioned are DIY, so you’ll need to do some research on the access to these places (if you wanna do day hikes or ropeways).

So the most accessible location would be Hakone and Mt. Takao as suggested by others.

Also depends on the season you’re visiting. Otherwise join day tour via bus arranged by Klook, KKday, etc.

Yup definitely not combine all in 1 day

maybe able suggest how will u pan out the places and spread out within 2.5 days?

If you only have 6D5N, you have 4 full days. I wouldn’t do 2.5D for nature as a first timer. There’s too many things to do in Tokyo.

Probably just one day for one location from the above suggestions. You need to factor in travel time (also dependent on weather conditions), unless you book day tours.

If you can stay at different places, it will be easier. Hakone or Kawaguchiko better stay for 1 night.

all in different area far apart, can't do all so take your pick
mitake - heading deeper into rural with gorge, forest, hiking trails. river raft in summer, trout fishing in autumn.
tsukuka - going up mountain with 2 peaks & nice view of kanto basin. will be nice if rice fields turns gold
hakone- volcanic area with nice lake & pirate ship, onsen
hitachi seaside park - not actually natural but huge garden with seasonal florals

Where would it be recommended to stay at for Kawaguchiko?

I would recommend the hotels at the east / north east (music forest / maple corridor area) / north (oishii park) side of the the lake, usually those hotels will have lake and fuji view at the background.

However if you are not driving, the transportation can be quite tricky, since the buses there is always overloaded nowadays and service ended early.

Can arrange for pickup service. Most hotels have this service. Stayed at Ubuya, there was a minivan to pick up customers from the station (check official website for timetable). Just need to reserve in advance.
