for the 'where', accom on the northern shore of the lake will be good, coz u can see the view of mt fuji with its reflection in the lake. southern shore will be nearer to the train station though

possible to fly into hakodate airport instead? that will save u quite a bit of driving.

for the 2 itinerary, the difference is just niseko? niseko is a ski resort, but since are not going in winter, i am not sure if there is anything else to see.

u will have to plan ur driving route and see if u need to use the expressway. i have not driven in hokkaido, so not familiar with the roads there.

Niseko & Jozankei. I have booked return air tickets with Chitose airport as my base. Only found out can fly into Hakodate airport after my air ticket purchase. Found out about Niseko from oceanicmanta's itinerary.


I am contemplating between Lake Toya & Niseko for my nite stay accomodation. Niseko's off season hotel prices are much cheaper than Toya and also nearer to Kamui Cape. Trying to see if i can finish exploring Toya on Day 4 & move on to Niseko? Any idea if Jozankei is worth exploring?

Nice itinerary! Do check out studio Ghibli museum tickets online. Last I checked quite a lot of days sold out. Also pricey in case you're not aware.

i guess he meant getting from 3rd party sites such as bridge.jp. i just bought my tickets for ghibli museum.. cost around 5000yen for 2 tickets after including delivery to hotel and their admin charge.

i checked with JTB and HIS as well. JTB will only allow purchase if u book selected hotels thru them. HIS charges a crazy price for the tickets (too crazy that i cant remember)

some ppl prefer to go back to tokyo trip after trip for shopping and eating, while others prefer to explore a new place every trip. so it is very subjective wat is worth visiting

Yes I remember seeing online and it came up to something like 200 odd dollars.

wat are ur plans for nagoya? coz it is a bit out of the way, compared to the rest of the places u are going. maybe add in some other places in Chubu since u are going to nagoya?
how many days will depend on wat u want to do there. probably a week to 10 days will be good.

Visiting Nagoya mainly for legoland. Should be going for 10-11 days. Bringing 2 preschool kids and my mum, not sure should self drive or take public transportation. Any advise?

Most of the attractions are easily accessible by public transport. In fact, it may be a hassle to drive in these places due to traffic and parking problem.

Not sure if it is worth it to travel to nagoya just for legoland. Coz taking shinkansen from osaka/kyoto to nagoya is quite expensive

Something in between for Ghibli is to get the tickets via airfrov. Way cheaper than third party sites, but slightly more expensive than buying directly online.

personally i would prefer to stay a night in hiroshima coz quite a bit to cover in hiroshima and miyajima. u may want to consider visiting himeji castle as well.

for ghibli museum, do get the ticket in advance coz it will likely to be sold out by the time u get to japan.

I would have loved to stay a night at Hiroshima so that it wouldn't be so rushed.

But I booked everything in a hurry so all the accomodations are already booked.

Did almost everything last minute, now actually already in Japan haha.

Not yet finalize the trip but I will be in Osaka then will be travelling to Koyto, Hiroshima, Nara, Takayama, Tokyo..

15D? Around National Day week? Crowded and expensive. Just be prepared for jams and crowds around mid August. Summer holidays and Obon week.

it depends how many days u planning to stay in each place.
are ur air tickets open-jaw? i.e arrive osaka, depart from tokyo?
if so, u can consider planning it such that u can cover the expensive train rides all within a 7-day JR pass.

e.g.
arrive osaka, cover kyoto, osaka, nara in the first few days.
activate 7 day JR pass to travel to hiroshima
travel from hiroshima back to osaka and to takayama
travel from takayama to tokyo before JR ends
spend remaining days in tokyo

and as thwysg mentioned, it is going to be crowded. so do book ur accom early
